    Default Foo Fighters

At my school, people don't like the Foo Fighters.
Some of you metal fans probably don't like the Foo Fighters, so I'd like an explanation why you don' like them. Not saying they are the greatest band ever, but everyone I know who likes hardcore or metal don't like them.

One response I got was "they're annoying.''

the reason that most people who listen to metal dont like foo fighters, is usualy that metal heads are usualy used to music involving solo's that will melt your face and prego your gf.
so, a comercial rock ''oh im ashamed i ever played with Kurt Cobain'' band aint gona cut it for most of them.

    Erm...*Raises hand*, hey.

Dave Grohl was quoted as saying that he thinks about Kurt often, even still, and still thinks of him while writing music, citing one of his many sources of desire to play drums as being with him in Nirvana.

    So, you're pretty wrong there.

Additionally, Dave Grohl is more respected by metal musicians than the metalheads who love them. Cronos was the first man to give his word to appear on Dave's Probot side project.

Do you know who Cronos is? He's in that band, Venom. The band who pretty much made it possible for most other extreme metal bands to exist. Guess who secured his services for their comeback album? Killing Joke. Killing Joke being that band that inspired and entire different line of metal. King Diamond? That Mercyful Fate guy? Loves Dave Grohl. So does James Hetfield, so does Max Cavalera etc. Tony Iommi, the guy who invented heavy metal guitar requested Grohl to sing and play guitar on a song for him. Do we wish to sit here and, though subjective, weigh up who's opinions carry more weight on the metal credibility of Grohl? I don't think we wish to do such things.

It's odd, they all seem to love the guy. Maybe it comes down to what I said about age. Those metal guys are old enough to recognise that talent is talent, and hating on it because it's not to your taste is immature. I hate Avenged Sevenfold, I think they suck balls, but I don't go around saying Synyster Gates is a shit guitarist. Dream Theater bore me to sleep, but I will debate to death with anyone who questions their musical and instrumental prowess, because they are the dog's balls at what they do.

Dave Grohl is more metal than any basement dwelling, Guitar Hero playing newb, who think they're the shit cos they wear an Obituary t-shirt, dude.

cause 'metal heads' think their music is the only good music. they shun everything else out.

    /in my experience

the foo fighters are pretty sick.

    Can you prove that?
And also, just because metal artists like him, that doesn't make him metal.

EDIT: GFAK your thinly veiled insults towards metalheads go unappreciated.

It's not their fault, it's just sad that even in 2008, people think they're being anti-commercial for being metalheads.

Arguably the most commercial of subcultures outside of rock music.

The very fact that Guitar Hero exists, and metalheads love it, is dire proof of the situation.

it'd be pointless arguing with you PG6, you are so pro-metal.
nothing anyone says will change your mind about metal.
and you're obviously very insulted about my comment. (which was based on the people i know) it makes me think you're kind of like these people. you have you're set music tastes, and it is the best music ever.

i said from my experience, all the people i know who love metal, hate every other kind of music, and believe that metal is like a gift from god.

    end of story
i dont care about your needless page long post meant to proove how much smarter you are then evry one and such.
im stating this from personal experience. im a musician, have been for 9 years, play guitar, bass and piano and have been playing in a metal band for 4 years.
i have never seen any metal heads, nor metal musicians, pay any kind of respect to grohl, nor nirvana. why? cause there a bunch of failbags. end of story.
it seems that in every thread you post in you rant on about how you play instruments, been doing so for quite a while, and that commercial music sucks. we get it. you can shut up now. everyone knows. end of story.

oh and we know you love putting your nuts in guys mouths. you say that quite a lot also.

Norrin, I give you the title of most creditable debater here.

But more or less, this topic wasn't a debate on Metal music, it was on why the Foo Fighters are disliked so much, especially by Metalheads. So Power, Squall, Norrin...no offense, but shove a sock in it.

Personally, I don't listen to much Foo Fighters, and I don't listen to alot of Metal. I'm an avid listener of Rap/Hip-Hop. Go ahead and say its shit music, **** you. But, I think the Foo Fighters are a good band. Of course, they aren't Metal, have all these awesome rifting sessions, and songs that make you want to mosh, or storm around. From Wikipedia; they are an Alternative, Post-grunge, Hard Rock band. Respect them for what genre they labeled themselves as. I don't go around shitting on other genres, you guys shouldn't either. We all come from different 'worlds' of music.

I'm not saying you have to like his music, but ability is NOT subjective, and he's not an average musician. They're an average band, to me, who make decent music. You hate them, fair play.

my problem with these things in general, how could i say it. i see music as an art, and think evry one should be a modern version of chopin in how they do music. i am not impressed by some dude pulling of power chord rifts and making generic music. i dont like comercial music in general, and by this, i include MANY metal bands, not just the crap that plays on mtv and muchmusic/loud.
yes, my expectations towards music are extremly high, though, this does not mean they are not valid.
Very understandable points, but what you fail to realise, or are ignoring, is that there has to be shit, for there to be good. Every musician and piece of music that exists HAS to exist.

Would you want Britney Spears, Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco fans suddenly being like "WOO! OPETH!"? I sure as hell would say "**** that.". Let them have their music. Yes, it does get frustrating for those of us who don't buy into the shit that is there, but to paint ALL mainstream music with the same brush is just as irresponsible as those who think metal and rock is just screaming.

I'm not pro or anti any genre, it is what it is. I'm pro-whatever music meets my own standards. Foo Fighters? I enjoy them, but I'm not acting like they're Led Zeppelin. You hate them, fine by me, but you're being a bit over-reactive just because you dislike them, in my opinion.

If you don't think your favorite music is the best music ever, what's the point of listening to it?
EDIT: I don't know what you're getting at with the whole FOB fans being like "WOO OPETH!" but I would support you in the "**** you"-ing.

I don't like Grunge/Industrial Rock, hence I don't like the Foo Fighters. In my opinion I find it just plain messy and noisy to me.

I find Red Hot Chili Peppers music (In this case, anything from Blood Sugar Sex Magick and before) much more entertaining as Funk Rock (Which is relatively energetic and noisy) than typical Grunge, like the Foo Fighters. Not to mention the fact that the Foo Fighters are so mainstream, then there are posers who can't do the proper 'Rock sign' ( \m/ ) who think bands like Foo Fighters, A7X and Linkin Park are hardcore. I definitely do not want to be associated with them.

This thread was "Epic" so to speak.

But hey, I like a guy who can play Satan in a movie and still have enough self-esteem to keep making music. (David Grohl played Satan in The Pick of Destiny for those of you who didn't know).

I get what you mean by appreciating it. Its like respecting other genres of music which you just aren't into. I only know John 5 as the guitarist who got fed up with Marylin Manson while playing "The Beautiful People"... and for "Sugar Foot Rag", that country/rockabilly song is awesome.

I'll definitely check Frusciante's solo album out.

I didn't know Prince was a guitarist, lol. I only knew him as a young Michael Jackson look-alike and pop singer. I'll check out some of his stuff. Whats a good album to start listening to? I'm not very keen on R&B. Jazz and Blues are cool though. Could you recommend me one with nice guitar work?
It's amazing how many people think of Prince as that kind of person.

He's mastered 27 instruments, he does more or less everything on his albums. Clapton, Vai, Petrucci, Satriani; they all hail Prince as one of the best guitarists ever. Victor Wooten praises his basswork, John Blackwell and Carl Palmer have fawned over his skill as a drummer.

He's not a "Michael Jackson" anything. Nothing against Jackson, mind you.

Here's a video of him performing at George Harrison's tribute show. Waits until the end and then pretty much wipes the floor with everyone, with a completely freestyled solo:

    http://www.youtube.com/v/ifp_SVrlurY&rel=1

He comes in at 3 mins, 30 secs.

As for recommendations, I don't know really, he covers so many different styles. For guitar though, pretty much anything. Albums wise; Purple Rain, Prince, Musicology, 1999, Chaos and Disorder (If you can find it). I couldn't begin to pick just a few, he's got about 30 albums.

Awesome performance. Paul Gilbert also did a great cover of that song, with Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater as well.

    Good stuff.
