Right click on the program/shortcut you want to run, and go to properties.
On the tab you should see "Compatability". Go there, put a check mark on compatibility mode and select Windows XP SP 2. Click ok, then right click the program/shortcut again and select "run in admin mode".

As a user who runs Vista, usually all you have to do if a program is not running or updating properly is to right click it, and choose 'Run as Administrator'. I've never had any problems with any game beyond that.

Okay, thanks everyone. I have one more question. If I'm getting a new desktop, wouldn't I need a new monitor?

It works with Vista. I haven't had one single game which have had any problems in Vista. (And I have a lot of them) The compability problems was an issue in early 2007, not 2008.

    Same here.
Trickster does work on vista and im pretty sure any other game works for vista as well.
You might want to see if you can run other games before trickster though.
I dont know if its just my computer, but when I ran trickster I couldn't play other games. So I had to reboot my whole computer.

vista is compatible with most games out there, mmorpg or wutever, and im a vista 64 user and i have yet to run into a problem.

btw that comp u linked 2 is not so great for gaming. it only has integrated grafix which is not good at all. and yes you DO have a motherboard in ur comp, i think he meant u may need a new one. and no ur new desktop would not need a new monitor unless ur monitor is so old that ur motherboard doesnt support it.

    hope that helps

i'm a vista user myself, an Vista natively supports the majority of games. I had to use compatibility mode for one game so far (out of 40 other games) because it had some issue with Vista's resource management system

You can plug any monitor in pretty much. You don't necessarily need to purchase a new one for a new PC.

I had a sweet 19 inch crt for a long time now. I have used it on about 5 different computers. It still has exceptional picture quality.

Having said that, I only use the 19inch on my linux box as it was completely put together with left over parts I found in my closet. For my main windows gaming box I have a 20.1 inch widescreen.

So it depends what you have really. If you only have an oldskool CRT monitor, you probably would absolutely LOVE having a larger widescreen.

everything runs fine for me on vista

only games that didnt work yet was call of duty 2 (black screen in gameplay) and rollercoaster tycoon 1 (like 1% chance to get to the gameplay part, otherwise screen freezes and youd have to kill the proces to get out, heard it also has compatibilty probs in XP)

    but that was before november

Okay, cool. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Now that's left is to find a new (better) desktop.

Hmm.. but everything else is good right? If it's just the graphic (and/or graphic card?), I just need to replace it right?

Hmm, that's okay. I doubt I'm going to play those hardcore games that require a crapload of memory (well I probably will, but not any time sooner). Guess I'm going to have to change the graphic card.

Hmmm, what graphic card should I get that's below $200 and that's decent enough for most games?
