Default Any Point to Getting Guild Wars?

Well I got Guild Wars: Factions a little more than a year ago, and I've been itching to buy the rest of the series since then. However, I have several concerns:

-Factions is pretty much empty; are the other campaigns like this?
-I hear Guild Wars is dying; can anyone confirm a lessened amount of activity/other players in this game?
-Since Guild Wars 2 is probably coming out in less than a year, what's the point of getting the original Guild Wars series? It seems like Guild Wars 2 will wipe out what's left of the Guild Wars community.

And that's pretty much it. What I'm saying is, is there any real point to getting Guild Wars now? If Guild Wars is relatively active, I might consider getting the rest of the series, however I'm worried that Guild Wars 2 will destroy the Guild Wars community, and so I don't plan on spending $80 on games that will only last for 6 months or so; I could just wait for Guild Wars 2.

What do you guys think? Anyone know the approximate release date for Guild Wars 2?

I feel your pain man. Faction's campaign completely sucked in comparison to the first and 3rd games. I say go get the original because the story in that one was epic and then follow it up with EoTN and the other one if you have enough cash.

But the original is a must buy.

EDIT: GW isn't empty o_O I logged on a couple of days ago and I lagged due to the amount of players in town.

Not to mention lion's arch had over 30 districts 2 hours ago. rofl.(30+ districts american, international had like 10 I think, european had over 40 I believe.[it got to the point of pressing ctrl, the names stacked up to like... higher than heaven, coz you can't read all of them])

You should try going to either European or American districts, they have the most players. True that compared to the olden times, guildwars population dropped by about 1/3, but there's still a lot of people.

And factions isn't empty, everyone is all cramped up in Kaineng most of the time. :/

While it definitely isn't what it used to be, the original Guild Wars is still very populated.

The release date of Guild Wars 2 remains TBA (to be announced), but a beta is expected sometime this year.

I used to be a hardcore GW player, and I'd recommend against buying the other series now. Why?

-In all honesty, Guild Wars PvE is very weak
-GW's PvP becomes stale (I was in more than one top 10 guild) due to the lack of skill updates, there is a tonne of skills you'll never see used in PvP (Or PvE except by monsters).
-The addition of a PvE version of PvP with a ladder is stomach turning (Hero battles are a joke).

You should atleast get the first GW.
And the GW series is still one of the most playd games on Xfire, so I cant see the population dropping to any point that makes it feel empty.
The main citys in Nightfall, EotN, and Prophicies are still pretty bussy.

Did you maybe not think that some skills wernt meant to be used by players? And instead some are available just for enemies. There are still pleanty of skills for each class and concidering your limited to what fits on your hotbar theres alot of skill combinations.

    Almost OT:
My one fear for GW2 is that it wont be win2K compatable, and the guy I got my XP disk from screwd me by sending me a 20 character CoA, and a XP home edition disk that requires a 25 character CoA.

ROFL At above 3 posts ^

I recommend getting all the guild wars, seriously, just do it, now. Prophecies, Nightfall, EOTN Have skills that will buff up your factions character, plus, more gameplay. Guild wars is NOT dead.
