I was raised with the belief, and took it on myself, that you do not put your hands on a woman.
However, my own mother used to say to me "If a girl is misusing that respect, and abusing you, you fight back.".
I would never full on fight a girl, but if it came to me getting hardcore physical abuse, I would physically stop her and defend myself.
