More or less they are quite similar, but AoC runs a bit better than Vanguard.

I have not re-visited Vanguard since beta, but it is a lush game filled with lots to see and plenty to do.

I would say it does cater more or less to the EQ1 audience if you want to put it that way, I thoroughly enjoyed EQ1, and I wouldnt put it past me to start playing that again.

Age of Conan is like a 180 to Vanguard, I think the only thing it shares in common is the attention to detail.

I cant play either game cause my system has progressively reduced in power in the last 6 months, gotta buy my new equipment as money comes in.

Though I havent played much of Age of Conan, I would play that rather than Vanguard, unless I suddenly get some hands-on time with Vanguard. From what I remember, I like the variety of classes available in Vanguard. It does cater more to my tastes.

    This will answer it.
In my case I have no problems running VG (no wonder, the pc was build for it). Crysis and AoC are playable, Im above minimal requirements.
Thats also my practical experience with the games.

Also consider this: If you have difficulties to run AoC you will run in huge problems if you raid or siege. Find some spot with a lot of players (preferable high levels with lots of shiny armors) and check your system performance. On said raids or sieges your performance will go down even further.

    Edit:
Which of the games to play? Well, if funcom is able to deliver the promised content fast (and the leveling in AoC seems absurdly easy) go with AoC.
If Funcom fails Vanguard will offer more content.
