    Default Moderator Tips

So today, I was apparently invited to become a moderator on one of my favorite forums. I guess OnRPG has warped my thinking of what a forum SHOULD be like, so can any of you current forum moderators or moderators on other forums throw me some tips? The forum that I had been invited to become a moderator on is running on Vbulletin.

    Thanks.

Restrain yourself from breaking the rules.

Everyone else besides Raiyne... You arn't moderators so shaddup! >_>

Best thing you can do is learn the rules of the site and follow them. Don't get tempted into doing things you shouldn't because it looks like fun or because "everyone else is doing it". Depending on how strict the rules are you may have to become a hardass and people will hate you for it, but hey, thats life

Just try to have fun as well, because you arn't getting paid for it so you don't want to burn yourself out. You will have a certain amount of power, but don't abuse it.

I am a forum mod for 3 forums ATM, and its somewhat hard to do at times.

I do understand how things can be confusing since your normal actions here can conflict with youur actions on the other forums. You just got to keep reminding yourself that it is a different forum and you are more than a member at that forum. You are an example.
I needed that, thanks for the advice, oh great master cyber7.

Sandman and Raiyne, I've literally written down your tips, thanks!

What type of forum are you going to be working for?

If a lot of kids would be on it you really need to stay in line on the rules and keep your eyes peeled. As a moderator you're the only defense, and once those kids see that you're not looking they cleverky spam or double post in threads you probably will not appeal to. So keep out for that.

Just really keep an eye on your own actions and try to stay close to the community.
Being a mod is one thing.. ya you have power. But being close to the community that they'd respect you even if you weren't a mod is something equal the importance.

A good Mod is a mod that does his duty and that everyone loves. Just make sure that you don't get so close you over look some problems because your friends. You have to keep a line that never bends or trouble might be headed if you seem to have a weakness.
