Reputation: 118are you sure its not the automatic updates?
Reputation: 16Well it says install windows xp so I'm guessing it's not a update or anything.
Reputation: 118OHHH your installing windows while its doing this, gotcha
well anyways, the xp installation, if i can remember only restarted 2 or 3 times so somethings not right
Reputation: 16Uh sorry guess I didn't explain enough or unless you don't remember from the last thread I posted. Well anyways here's the full story, I got my video card from the ups not a very uber one but cheap and enough to play some games on medium. I uninstalled my onboard graphics and turned off the comp, plug the video card in, plug the power connector, turned it on, put in the cd. I clicked install drivers and while it was about done it overheated. I left it alone for 1 hour and went back to it, once I get to the windows loading screen with the blue bar it restarts and keeps doing it, so you mention the xp cd at my other thread and I got it from the internet(didn't buy it) and now this thread appears.
Reputation: 14maybe the fan wasn't working....if it was working was it running at a high speed.....
I think you basically fried your video card........so it won't working anymore.....
you could of done something else but if your video card is still ok I suggest reinstalling your OS by booting from the disk...
Reputation: 16Everything is fine except that the fact that my computer keeps restarting, but I'll take your advice, well anyways does reinstalling windows get rid of all your programs or does everything stay the same?
Edit: Nvm I figured out it does, anyone got a way to reinstall windows without wiping my hard drive clean, I also don't have any back ups of my drive either =/

Reputation: 16Ah thanks, I googled about it and the sites I went to only mentioned the programs being erased.
But it should be noted that this does not guarantee a fix, and can often leave quite a mess of old system files and junk.
But try it and see what happens.
Afterwards(and after installing all of the latest windows updates), run CCleaner(both the file and registry cleaner) to get most of the junk left out of there.
oh i see whats going on.....i didnt read the other posts so i dunno if anyone stated this but pretty much your pc is set to boot from cd now whats going on is when your installing xp it restarts....your pc is booting from cd so its reading the cd and starting the installation process all over...so pretty much just make it so it doesnt boot from cd after the bios loads it'll ask you to select the OS you want to use and select windows xp installation
ps.
