    Default Suggest me some music.

I'm actually looking for something more specific than just "your favorite bands"
because I'm pretty picky when it comes to music ...
I'm mainly looking for "rythmic" progressive rock/metal.
(Any suggestion is still appreciated, just not considered as much)

Best example of "rythmic" prog rock/metal I can think of would be the songs Orchidia, Mother And Child Divided, Futile and Wedding Nails by Porcupine Tree...
There's also Tool, which I happen to be a big fan of.
Riverside might enter that category as well... (That's what happens when a band has a bassist as lead singer)

Currently working on getting into Green Carnation and Pain Of Salvation

    You have excellent taste.

Listen to A Vampire's View by the Flower Kings, if you like Pain of Salvation, for one.

You might like Ayreon as well, check out the Human Equation double cd.

Other than that, you might also like Three, although they're a much better live band than they are an album band. I think they have a live album though. Yo might want to check that out.

Oh, and Green Carnation's members (most of them) used to be in a band called In the Woods... Might want to check them out too. They do a cool cover of White Rabbit (by Jefferson Airplane) for one thing.

edit: Also maybe The Gathering or Dead Can Dance, although they're a bit of a stretch to compare to the sort of progressive music you're describing (they're both progressive in the same way as Porcupine Tree's the Sky Moves Sideways is progressive imo). Very cool bands, though, which you might enjoy.

King Crimson, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me (Reasonably progressive), Rush.

Evergrey's pretty good. And like someone mentioned, Opeth is just amazing (but they're progressive death metal, so dunno if you'd like them as much)

Haha, no one has mentionned Dream Theater because :
    1. It's way too technical
    2. From my tastes, It's obvious that I already know alot about them. Six Degrees/Falling Into Infinity > all the rest

    As for :

Three ; I'm currently working on getting into them, just like Pain Of Salvation and Green Carnation...
Sounds pretty similar to Coheed & Cambria, which isn't a bad thing...
got the special edition of No World For Tomorrow with the shirt that came with the pre-order

Rush ; never really caught my attention, way too pop-rock... I own their Rush In Rio live DVD tho... Their encore is the best part...

    Skillet/Godsmack/Protest The Hero ; lol.

Not trying to be some music critique, but there's some stuff I can't get into.

Big thanks to shadowsworn. The Sky Moves Sideways > life.

Ayreon, Flower Kings, In the Woods, The Gathering, Dead Can Dance...
    Stuff to get into

Anything else my 70gb+ iTunes library should contain?

    Hahahahahahahahaha.

    Rush = pop rock?

Hahahahahahahaha. Sorry, that just ranks up there as one of the funniest things ever.

"I'm not trying to be a critic.", dude, you're showing off more than Pamela Anderson at a Girls Gone Wild party. Your collection doesn't impress me, and neither does your knowledge if you think Rush are pop rock.

I'm not "showing off my collection" (this is a recommendation thread, remember?)
But I've always considered Rush to be radio-friendly rock with prog influences ...
People's opinion on Rush seem to range from "too radio-friendly" to "legends of prog rock"... It's weird.

And hey, don't bring my age into this thread. My music tastes are 0% related to my age. (Excluding the mainstream shit from 3 years ago still polluting my last.fm charts)
To me, Rush is like the 80's U2, except with a touch of prog.
They're amazing musicians and all, but it's very accessible when compared to stuff like early King Crimson...
Most prog-heads would disagree on the U2 thing and consider it as an insult tho. That's wrong. U2 made some amazing albums.
