ping spikes in Battlefield 2

For some reason, my ping jumps anywhere from 30-800 at any moment! Its very strange because im not running on a wireless connection and the servers pings are usualley from 40-90, meaning it should run fine, but it doesnt! I have no idea what to do and id like to play BF2, so any ideas?

I already have the latest patch

I know this might sound obvious, but make sure that you (or any PC on your network) are not downloading while playing FPS games.

Torrents are especially bad for causing ping spikes.

I know for most FPS games, the servers themselves can run into ping spike, server lag problems. People cheap out and rent servers on shared boxes. That rental server probably runs 50 servers at once or something mental depending on the company.

Do you get these spikes on a different server? Or does this happen on only the one?
