AO graphics update poll ;)

Ok so as everyone knows AO is going to update their engine into AoC engine and its looking awesome..

Here are alpha videos/shots just so everyone sees..Also remember this is alpha so once its finished it'll be even better plus if its the whole engine that means that everything including animations and models will be updated.

My question : who all is going to give it a try/come back to it once they do this update?

Btw the update is due for "later this year" I was told august though so I'm hoping..

Personally I'm p2ping for it and just loving it so far..tons of people still playing and such so its just fine atm and I'm sure the update will bring TONS of new ones to come play (ever need help contact me I don't mind teaching about this game and if you need a guild I'm in a great guild atm) lvl 69 fixer atm

Lastly, but by no means least, we are still working on the render engine upgrade. As I also mentioned in the previous letter we are currently in a lengthy part of the process where we are stripping out the old engine entirely and integrating a new one, and testing that all the game’s key features still work! The development continues to be good, though, and we will be sure to keep you all up to date as we progress. It’s quite a formidable task and we won’t rush it out.

so their claiming it will be out this year and 17.9 is already out so the only one left is 17.10 then its the big update so my guess is about two months maybe release the alpha version earlier though.

Also just to bust some peoples bubbles, they are not changing textures only changing to Dx9 and making it use GPU instead of CPU/ram so it will run a lot smoother and theres actual lighting now which is still a very huge change...they are however changing the animations and character models so that will be a big change but the textures are staying the same I believe.
They are also adding AA in (very huge lift as well) and a longer view distance (which will lag less due to them upgrading it)

Basically not there is no texture upgrade, but the other upgrades will make so big of a difference you won't notice.

Edit : scratch that, there is a small texture upgrade as the current textures don't support alpha channels (from what I just read) so it will have a bit of a lift on the textures after all

I've been playing this game for...good grief like 5 years now. It's about dang time we got some decent graphics. And the best part is, the current AO engine only runs off your gpu but the new one is supposed to use your cpu and gpu so it should actually run smoother even with the new graphics.

Yeah I'll play it... I bought it when it was new, and after the 1st month I left due to problems. I tried again as a Froob a year ago. Currently playing AoC and am one of the rare folks that like it so I would try AO with AoC engine.
