There is no such thing as a stupid question.
In the ToolBox, you'll see an icon with a capital "T". Click it and then move the cursor to any part of the work area--by clicking and dragging the box out, you will create a text area.
To edit the closeness of the text, horizontally and vertically, as well as edit the way it's typed, alignment and so on, click Window>>Paragraph.
