Reputation: 162Is this a lame atempt to get a sticky?
I want a peice of music thats all the genras rolled into one.
Amon Amarth (Melodic Death Metal)
Apocalyptica (Power Metal with Cellos)
Blind Guardian (Pre-Nightfall = Speed-Metal: Post-Nightfall = Power Metal)
Dark Tranquility (More of a melodic death, but it's power-metal to my ears)
Demons and Wizards (ehhh... I always saw them as Power, but PG6 says they're speed)
Dream Evil (A little of everything, to be honest)
Dream Theater ("progressive" metal, which generally means power metal with more synthesizers, in my opinion)
Edguy (Deffinetely power, but they get pretty fast as well)
Eluveitie (Celtic Folk-metal. Very heavy stuff, but awesome as well)
Elvenking (Folk-power-metal. Violins and flutes and stuff)
Ensiferum (Considered Viking Metal by most)
Epica (More of a symphonic power-metal, like Nightwish without the soprano vocals)
Evergrey (Not entirely sure myself. Less melody then power metal, but not quite fast enough to be speed)
Falconer (Power metal)
Gravity Kills (Not really metal, but you should like it anyway)
Hammerfall (power metal)
Helloween (Ehhh... once again, I have a hard time telling the difference. Power/speed)
Iced Earth (Speed, with dark melodies occasionally)
Kamelot (Best power metal ever. Screw all who disagree)
Korplikaani (More Viking-Metal, I think. Maybe it's folk... gah)
Liquid Tension Experiment (Basically Dream theater but all instrumentals)
Opeth (I know of little of these guys, but their mostly melodic death, I think)
Shadows Fall (Kinda metalcore, but still awesome)
Sonata Arctica (Power Metal)
Stratovarius (Pretty much power metal)
Turisas (Viking Metal)
Wintersun (I think Viking as well)
All listed alphabetically. Have fun.
EDIT: If you still dislike it PG6, go ahead and change as you see fit. You probably have more experience than I, anyway.
Reputation: 10no, i just don't wanna be selfish, so why not exapand the thread for everyone?
your looking for a remix then.
@Marineking, thanks!!
Reputation: 101Avenged Sevenfold (i love the new stuff)
In Flames sounds really good but when he starts singing a change the song.
Reputation: 10Well, he said both "heavy metal" and "speed metal." Some of the bands he listed were clearly not speed metal, as well. So I figured it was more of a vague "Kinda like this..." statement than an "exact specifications" request.
Besides, few but the most hard-core can even tell the different between speed metal and power metal (To be honest, the only difference I see is that power metal tends to have more of a melody to it).
Here, I'll go through and give them general labels, just in case he cares.
EDIT: And wait, Blind Guardian was pretty speed-metalish in their early years, too (Pre-Nightfall on Middle-Earth).
Reputation: 101i got cloud connected on limewire... huh... it sounds good... must have been another song i hated.
EDIT: it was free fall i don't like the singing in. i like all of the guitar in the beggining but when he opens his month... then he speaks of fail.
EDIT2:
Was A7X one of the ones you like? listen to trashed and scattered, critical aclaim, gunslinger (if you like acoustic, slow in the first half of the song), afterlife...
^^thats some of the new stuff^^
Reputation: 24Wikipedia disagrees.Avenged Sevenfold's material ranges across many genres, often leaving the concept of genres altogether (especially in their most recent album). For example, Avenged Sevenfold's debut Sounding the Seventh Trumpet consisted almost entirely of a metalcore or post-hardcore sound
Sorry Deselin, but metalcore is a sub-genre of Hardcore (I think), not metal. Metal Archives won't even host metalcore bands on their website (And they're almost the definitive internet source).
I'm not saying metalcore is inherently bad (Shadows Fall, as I said above, is really awesome), but it's not metal, exactly. More like hardcore with metal influences.
Reputation: 24Metal has too many sub-genres that I just constitute it all as metal.
As far as I'm concerned, A7X is metal. That's my opinion, I don't care what other people think. >_>
You would NEVER find me at a metal show. A7X is about all I can stand as far as metal goes.Originally Posted by Squallion

Unless it has AMAZING beats, I can't stand it. The screaming just hurts my ears, and doesn't sound at all like music to me.
Keywords in this post: TO, ME. (ie: MY OPINION)
EDIT:
Ok, then tell me, what sub-genre does Metalcore belong too? Also, it's not about opinion, it's about fact.
That's like saying "I think Uncharted is a Nintendo game" when clearly it's not.
Reputation: 7hate to say them but bullet for my valentine tries to be like the old late 80's early 90s though the only song of theres i like is 4 words to choke upon.
Reputation: 218No, not even a little metal.
My singing influences are Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, and Warrel Dane, among others, all three with operatic training.
That doesn't mean my singing is operatic, it just means it's opera-influenced.
It can at times sound operatic, but it wouldn't make it opera.
