    Default Next Gen MMorpg?

As the industry grows in both age and size, developers migrating from company to company and title to title will become increasingly common. Such is the case with the new multi-player online role-playing game Dragon Nest. The game is developed by Eyedentity Games, a new company comprised of veteran game developers from NCsoft, Gravity, Phatagram, and Webzen.

Dragon Nest tasks players with seeking an antidote for the poisoned Goddess Altea in the dragon-overrun world of Lagendia. To defeat the mightiest of the dragons, players may discover ways of morphing into the dragons themselves.

"Dragon Nest is a thrilling game with whimsical characters and fast action that is sure to appeal to a wide audience," said Chris Lee, founder and CEO of Eyedentity Games. "From the game's intense combat featuring combination and chain attacks to randomly changing dungeons and sporadically spawning monsters, players will be kept on their toes as they engage in non-stop exploration of the colorful Dragon Nest world."

Emphasizing artful visuals over cutting-edge graphics, Eyedentity promises that system requirements will be low for Dragon Nest. The game will enter beta testing in Korea in late 2008 and is currently scheduled for a worldwide release in 2009.

The Trailer was release not too long ago.

Does this look like Rose Online 2 to anyone else, or just me?

looks great, but what exactly is Next Gen in that, other than graphics? which is normal since hardware evolves?

the video showed a gameplay copy-pasted from any 7yo mmorpg.recognizable archer/warrior/mage tandem, grinding mobs for what i guess will be exp,and some bosses here and there.

even the figthing system seems to be the same old point and click F keys, just with combos and marginally more action-ish and fast.

looks nice but i fail to see what was truely next gen about that video, there are already games out which look better in some respects, which would make it current gen...i think..

I agree with arc tho, next gen for me would be to add awhole new level to the gameplay experience, rather than just another coat of paint

i recall one offline game (cant remember the title) where in order to cast spells you had to make mouse gestures to draw onscreen the shape of the "symbol of command"

imho, that several years old rpg was much more "Next Gen" that this game

This is the gameplay video, the game's combat system is alot faster then most games that i've seen today, and i think that people are asking & expecting too much out of mmorpgs.

Being the next gen mmorpg to me personally don't have to be all advance & have the latest s**ts, just good enough for the rest of the mmorpg to follow that mmorpg's style.

For example look at the Ipod generations, theres not much different besides more memory.

guess its just a matter of semantics then.
for me,Next Gen implies groundbreaking concepts that totally separates the product from any other, and make it a pioneer of a new trend to follow

the game looks great nonetheless,is it f2p?

idk exactly what part it was but Harry Potter for the pc had the same thing,
and it goes back before the time of DS.. so yea, they could have implemented
it into mmorpg's a long time ago..

Drawing your spell becomes a chore later on...I lost interest in Lost Magic..I think I should trade that, and Metroid Prime Hunters for Animal Crossing or something.

To be next gen, the MMO must be completely different from the current market(no grind, etc) because otherwise, as a bunch of you guys already stated, its just teaching a new dog old tricks.

I also think people are asking too much of mmorpgs .. this is what it is.. you cant really do much to change a mmorpg.. what you people are wanting done is a whole new type game it wouldnt be refered to as a rpg anymore .. well thats just my opinion.. I mean sure theres things you can improve on alot in mmorpgs but i dont really think theres a whole lot you can do to them to make them stand out from the rest. other then making them larger and more realistic looking maybe... I would love to see a fast paced game like this one with more of a grown up feel tho.. Im tired of playing little gay looking anime/manga whatever the hell you want to call them characters. I hope someone follows after Funcom with age of conan.. I would really love to see a better played faster paced age of conan..

download the trial of the creature creator, thatll give you an idea if you like it or not. the editors in that game are truely immense.

another game which i would probably consider truely nextgen is little big planet (dont have a ps3 tho ), anything where you can create and share easily is the way forward imo

i wouldn't say that the creature creator would give you an idea about the game,
its only a fraction of the things you can do. but it is good though to show how
    detailed the game can be.
