    Default Social MMOs

So, what's everyone's opinion on Social MMOs? like Second Life or "There".

I mean, you can do so much in them, but they use so much money. Does anyone even or anyone here has play(ed) a social MMO? Most people say they're pointless because we have real life, and people who play do it for the cyber sex.

But they're pretty cool, but I don't play them.

They're alright, but I prefer chat rooms over then any day. I do play Second Life every now and then, but that's only because of a few of my friends do. I don't see how anyone could think of paying for them though.

I think they're alright as long as you're just playing for fun. I use to play some with a few friends, and it was entertaining for a bit. I think most people believe it's pointless because it's not in their interest. Therefore, social mmo's have really nothing to offer them. Like someone who like social mmo's may believe mmorpgs are pointless. It just depends on interest.

Oh, I knew that. But MMOs that revolve around chatting, exploring, racing, sex, and other things that you can do in real life rather than in most MMOs where you constantly kill monsters for exp are considered Social MMOs, which is actually incorrect.

Anyways, I wanna try a social MMO, but for all the cool things.

Limited in truth. Social would relate to more than just chatting and emotes. If yuou break down most of the social elements of 80% of the MMOS out there, its more less a 3D chat room.

Now to be a real social MMO it would need more than just a chat and emotes. Features that encourage the community to interact with one another are what being social is about.

Music, pie eating, tag, and ball tossing are things that make the MMO more of a social thing.

My suggestion would be Lord of The Rings. Pie easting, tag, playing in a band or being solo, and pages upon pages of acheivements related to being social is what it has. Its adds to MMORPGs what previous MMORPGS failed at attempting to do. Being a community and a Rp and social level.

Sex is not a social thing, unless you are into swinging and swapping. Still its for a more/less private community.

I don't enjoy them personally, but they're there for a reason. I'm just not their intended market.

People who say they're redundant because we have a real life are the same people who say we shouldn't play guitar hero because we have real guitars, or shoudn't play FIFA games because we can go play sports outside.

They have a draw to them, be it talking to people from around the world in a virtual reality, or just toying with the novelty of an online game without all the killing and competitiveness and micromanagement.

If I wanna club, dance, talk ect.. I'll do so in real life. MMO IMO are a way to escape so why would I wanna do something I can do in real life in a game?

Roblox is the shit yo, although it's full of under-13 little kids, I'm cool with the mature community (roblox, olympicman, clockwork, ASD, mastercoder, etc), and we code stuff up and make awesome rooms.

Oz World's convos while fishing can be epic, lol.

Some ppl play secondlife hardcore, they actually make real $ off them by 1st investing US$1k-10k into the game, slowly making buildings/selling arts/sculptures etc etc making more $ ingame. There are services ingame to convert lindens (second life currency) to real $.
Ive seen several ppl earning over US$200k on the news...So social MMOs are not just for chatting/playing.. it can be used to make $, legally.

People say you can go do all the things in Second Life in real life, but what if you are a socially awkward person? I mean in all reality, no one is gonna make an 'ugly' character on second life, and if you are repulsive looking in real life, you could go on and play as a macho sexy person. I mean honestly, half the people playing second life are fat losers.

It gives them an escape from real life to be cool on the internet.

    Fishing sounds boring for me.

But, seriously. ROBLOX IS the shit. real cool. the only thing that ruins it for me, is that I can't learn how to script and use ROBLOXStudio, tons of noobs that make you wanna cuss and get ban, and most of the popular places suck ass.

Wait. So, you're saying that people who play Second Life make money doing so?

I got to get into it when I'm an adult.

Yep, was on the news several times, ppl actually making more $ in 2ndlife than in their real life in a year. But you must have a stable capital to start with and lots of patience and skills in making 2ndlife-ingame items/buildings to sell and play with, a site to promote your land, a handful of fans to spread news about your land.
