I don't enjoy them personally, but they're there for a reason. I'm just not their intended market.
People who say they're redundant because we have a real life are the same people who say we shouldn't play guitar hero because we have real guitars, or shoudn't play FIFA games because we can go play sports outside.
They have a draw to them, be it talking to people from around the world in a virtual reality, or just toying with the novelty of an online game without all the killing and competitiveness and micromanagement.
