In baseball and basketball, the three inches from 5'11" and 6'2" make a huge difference. Plus when you say you're over 6 feet tall, it makes you seem taller. It's just one of those idiotic mind trick things, like how people think it's such a deal that something costs $.99, yet if it cost a penny more it'd be normal.
Mainly just because it's the first and biggest measurement in height.

But three inches is noticeable also. If your talking to someone in real life, your not going to say your 6'3 if you are really 5'11. They will say "No your not!" and call you a lieing douchebag, or whatever people call each other nowadays.

No one is saying to do it that much in real life. I'd add an inch or two in real life, because having that extra boost in height is never a bad thing. Even if you don't see why you'd lie, it's always positive. The taller you are, the better.
On an application, such as if you're getting scouted, that's when you lie. Just to get them to come and see you play, and if you're good enough the two/three inches won't matter. It's what I have done in the past on baseball camp forms. I'll do it next year as well when I write to scouts from colleges I like to come watch me play.

I don't care if people talk about it, but I always think sex is a private matter myself. My friend will talk about the girls he has had sex with, but he doesn't brag about having sex. I hate people that turn it into a competition or those that start talking to just make themselves appear better to you.
I worked with a guy once who constantly talked about this girlfriend he had. I could really give a shit less, but he would talk about her all the time and I would just ignore it. He would talk about how is gonna by her lingerie and rent adult flicks with her and shit. The funny thing is I never saw this girl... EVER. As it turned out she lived like 4 states away, lol. I am not even sure if she existed.
I also remember when I first starting going out with this girl I liked that out of nowhere my friend started dating this one girl, but it was really strange. According to him she was young and lived in Texas. He use to do a lot of shit to keep up with me in a sense... always trying to 1 up me. Since he has had to move out on his own he seems to have matured and is a better friend for it.
MOST people tend to grow out of it after awhile. This need to impress starts to dwindle as people will start to worry about their own lives rather than how their lives compare to some other persons life. There is nothing you can really do about it at the moment and when he brings it up its best to just ignore him, and if he makes fun of you for some strange reason than he really isn't that great of a friend in the first place.
