I have it on the ps2. I played online for a month and personally disliked it. I started late and everyone was pretty far ahead of me. I think the game is 10 dollars a month to play online.

The game costs $9.99 a month.
If you want to play on the PC, you can obtain the game via illegal means and then you only have to pay the subscription.

I know its just my opinion, but this game felt very rough and nothing like PSO. PSO was three times the game PSU was. Pretty graphics and ok weapons, but didn't have the spark that made it addictive.

yeah it's free, i dunno about a demo though. I personally thought storyline mode was dull compared to online though.

The overall storyline is decent but the dialouge leaves a lot to be desired. There's nothing really wrong with story mode other than that. It's just that when you are playing PSU on story mode, you can't help to feel like, "damn I wish I could play with other people" and then you remember you can for a monthly fee lol. Don't get me wrong though, I have it on both the ps2 and pc and you'll get your money's worth if you play story mode.

I kinda recommend playing the Story first, actually. As a PSO fan, I got PSU the day it came out and rushed online but...

...when I just got back into it (on the Xbox 360 version) I decided to play the Story before going online,
and I enjoyed it a lot more.

And you still get Extra Mode offline--you can create your own character and wander the universe and whatnot,
it's just not as fun without your friends.

Instead of going to PSU, Get PSO which is the earlier Phantasy Star , but is free, and in my honest opinion, MUCH better than PSU

I'm tired of you noobs saying PSO is better. It isn't.
You're mixing up good/fun memories with better gameplay.
    And PSU is just better.

the only thing worth playing in PSU and its expansion is its single player, its online mode is complete garbage.

PSO had a way better Online mode, unfortunately...IMO, Sonic Team seems to have forgotten how to make good games these days.

Excuse me? I'm a noob because I like a game that differs from your preference?, please do read "IN MY HONEST OPINION"

Not everybody will want to play what you think is the best, it's better in my eyes, maybe not yours.

No pikko.. PSU is far worse. For instance the proton points for weapons is just dumb. Wanna be a ranger? Better bring alot of refills for the element most used in the level. I played pso again after playing psu and guess what. PSO was still much more fun overall.

truthfully do not see how PSO is better than PSU. yes the mission system could have been done better in PSU as well as the class balancing but there's a lot of things that PSU has better than PSO.

+The battle system. being able to switch weapons real time (and carry six sets) and melee now get attacking skills is way better
    +no job restrictions.
    +better graphics
    +partner card/room system.
+PM's could have had better AI's but were a nice touch.

That's not to say PSO sucks which it clearly doesn't, but to say it's better is a bit much.

well i think pikko is more or less right.

If you compare PSO to PSU there is nothing in PSO that is really better.

except the grafics and some minor changes its still more or less the same game so if your computer can handle PSU i don't see why someone would not prefer it over PSO.

I played PSO on Dreamcast already so i know where i stay ...

I pretty much know that MANY fans were a little bit upset about the change in the fighting system which allowed even "noobs" to play the game, but you can still hit the button like in PSO and make a stronger attack.

I am currently playing Phantasy Star Portable with friends and its the same as PSU and noone of us sees anything that is bad (only that its currently japanese only V)

P.S. well for Ranger its little bit hard but why are there photon recharges to carry around if you do not need them ever ...

I still think most ppl currently favor PSO because its free on shthack or hower the name is
