Some restaurants are selling [doubles cheeseburgers] with one slice of cheese instead of two, and billing it as a "double hamburger with cheese." Others are offering a double hamburger without cheese. Some are selling the traditional double cheeseburger at prices ranging from $1.09 to $1.19....

...The biggest question for the eight-item menu is what to do with the double cheeseburger, considered its anchor. High dairy prices have pushed up the cost of cheese, and McDonald's predicts more pressure from higher beef costs this year.

Thompson said if McDonald's moves the double cheeseburger off the lower-price menu, there would still be some type of $1 burger.

This could be devastating to cheap people like me. Mickey D's had better not frick with my double cheeseburgers. And who knows what might happen to the two apple pies?

It's called the Dollar Menu for a reason; everything has to be a dollar. It isn't called the $1.19 Menu.

I went to the mall with a dollar(don't ask) on tax free weekend and went to the Mcdonalds for the dollar menu and ordered the double cheeseburger but they said the tax free thing doesn't affect the food court so the burger costed like $1.09 and I left the mall hungry

lol here in canada the cheeseburgers are 4 times the cost and a third of the size, its highway robbery over here. Good thing healthcare is free so you can eat pills from being depressed because the foods so damn expensive xD

But yeah, I've heard that cheese is the biggest problem with restaurants lately. A buddy of mine works at a sub/pizza place, and his boss gave him strict regulations on how much to use. STRICT.

I guess the company (its a chain) looses X million dollars a year on cheese (I was thinking 6, but I don't remember)
