Riot Announces “Assassin” Update

Shen Akali PAX Prime 2013

As each season draws to a close, these days Riot focuses on fixing something in the game of League of Legends that is unbalanced. Sometimes this is a fantastic thing [Taric rework] and sometimes these balance changes aren’t so great [some of the Mage reworks, seventh Ryze rework]. Season Six ends in November and it wouldn’t be the same without a huge announcement! The next thing to get changed: Assassins! And now I know a lot of Yi, Akali and Talon mains are screaming one of two things:

  1. WHY THE FUCK WOULD THEY NERF US!? WE ARE BALANCED. SERIOUSLY. FUCK YOU RITO.
  2. Yeah, time to get even more OP! I can’t wait! Oh.. then my champ will be banned all the time. FUCK YOU RITO.

One of the major reasons Assassins are being looked at so closely is that their damage happens before any reaction can happen. The moment Akali dashes in, you’re dead and you don’t even know it. Master Yi can obliterate an entire time by himself, and God help you if Taric made him invulerable during his Ultimate. Playing against a fed Assassin who decides to go tanky is pretty much a hopeless endeavor. It’s infuriating to lose against something that has the HP of a tank and better damage than a carry. They want to make them unique, fair, and have them bring something to a team other than “HURR DURR I HAZ DMG PLZ!!”. There are fewer things to balance this time they say and we’ll have to keep an eye open for it. But some of the big ones I’m looking forward to seeing changes for: Talon, Akali, Fizz, Le’Blanc, Shaco. There are others on the potential chopping block, but we’ll see what happens. We’ll be sure to bring you all the latest, but I won’t lie to you. I’m a little worried about it.
