When Heroes Clash – DC Universe Online versus Champions Online

REVIEW

In comic books, there is a long history of misunderstandings between heroes which then lead to fights, which then lead to eventual team-ups to defeat the villain of the peace. The Human Torch and the Sub-Mariner had the first of these ‘incidents' way back in 1941.

Battlefield Play4Free Preview – Dead on Arrival?

REVIEW

Electronic Arts is taking their renowned Battlefield series into the free-to-play arena for a second time later this year with Play4Free. Almost two years since Battlefield: Heroes brought us a more slapstick take on the series' famed multiplayer military mayhem, this new iteration takes us back to the game's roots. Play4Free returns to what made Battlefield great - two teams of soldiers doing their utmost best to obliterate each other with an assortment of powerful weaponry and vehicles. However, unlike their commercial counterparts, you won't have to pay a dime to experience any of it.

Rift TV: The Road to a Golden Age

REVIEW

It sneaks up on us from time to time. On an average Saturday after seeing a great movie, you and your friends go on a gaming binge. It gets mundane on its own after a while and your mind starts to wander. It wanders until it reaches a question older than the MMO genre itself.

'Imagine if this game was a movie/live action show?'

Trion intends to do just this with their new blockbuster title, Rift.

Spiral Knights Preview – Old School Meets New School

REVIEW

Three Rings Design, the developers behind the popular Puzzle Pirates game, is joining forces with SEGA to bring out a brand new online adventure that mixes old school dungeon crawling with today's MMO style gaming. Their newest title is called Spiral Knights and it looks to be a wicked mix between such classics as The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles and with just a splish-splash of Bomberman.

APB: Reloaded Much More Than A Simple Relaunch!

REVIEW

Back in November of last year we broke the news that APB was making a comeback under the capable wings of GamersFirst and at GDC we have seen that this is NOT vaporware. APB is back under the great name APB: Reloaded and GamersFirst is doing some fantastic work on reworking the core mechanics of the game to not only bring APB back, but to bring it back a much better game than before!

Is Final Fantasy XIV Really That Bad?

REVIEW

Following its release last September, Square Enix's latest entry into the famed Final Fantasy series was met with a decidedly negative response. Now in its fourteenth iteration, a game with Final Fantasy sprawled across the cover is usually indicative of a genre-defining role-playing experience. The series is home to titles that many consider to be the greatest of all time, but recently the response to Square Enix's flagship role-playing game hasn't been what the series has come to expect. The long-awaited Final Fantasy XIII was criticized for being too linear and boring, and the announcement of a second MMORPG bearing the twenty year old credentials didn't exactly set the world on fire. Rightly so, many would assume after looking at early reviews, but is Final Fantasy XIV really that bad?

Heroes of Three Kingdoms: Flop or Hot?

REVIEW

How many variations of this story have we encountered already? Heroes of Three Kingdoms is another game developed by Perfect World Entertainment (PWE), the company behind some serious games like Jade Dynasty, Forsaken World, and Battle of the Immortals. This is the developers first foray into a serious game with a heavy historical background, with Heroes loosely based on China's most popular epic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a story that details that civil unrest that resulted in harsh battles in ancient China. The game takes you to the time when the story took place and your role is to take part in the great unification of China. The game's background is promising and PWE has a reputation for making artful characters. Let's see how Heroes of Three Kingdoms fare as a game.

It Looks Terribly Familiar: Legend of Martial Arts Review

REVIEW

Legend of Martial Arts is Perfect World Entertainment's (PWE) improved version of Q-world, a game exclusively released in Asia several years ago. The result is a cute, colorful and cartoony 3D fantasy MMORPG with a semi-Oriental theme. Legend of Martial Arts is very easy on the eyes with its anime-inspired characters and vivid visuals, a feature common to other games like Luna Online, Flyff, Rose Online and its sister game, Ether Saga Online. With that being said, does Legend of Martial Arts offer something new to be able to stand out in the slew of other cutesy and casual MMORPGs?

Spending A Bad Day In Neverwinter

REVIEW

Previously, we discussed the positive aspects of the Neverwinter Nights series, and the diversity to be found within either title in the franchise. One of the reasons the games are so heavily praised is due to them filling a niche in the gaming market that no other title has attempted to break into, or that many publishers even know exists. If you were to look at this from another perspective though, if no-one else is clamouring to make the next spiritual successor to the Neverwinter Nights franchise and there isn't much of an outcry for these sorts of games, are they worth making at all?

Tibia Review: 14 Years and Counting

REVIEW

Tibia is a top-down two-dimensional game employing a point and click control method. Maps are basically textured grids, with your character moving from one square at a time in one of four directions (up, down, left and right). The visuals aren't particularly pleasing to the eye, nor have they improved much over the years, but that isn't what Tibia seems to be going for.
