Tabula Rasa Beta Preview

For the last few years, we’ve been hearing about Richard “Lord British” Garriott’s latest venture into the mmorpg realm, Tabula Rasa. Originally just a working title, Tabula Rasa (meaning “blank slate”) has come to epitomize everything Garriott is going for this time out.

REVIEW Recently, Sony Online Entertainment was kind enough to set me up with a copy of EverQuest 2: Echoes of Faydwer.  Not only does this contain the latest expansion, but the boxed copy of this and their upcoming expansion contain all the prior expansions as well as the original edition of the game.  This is great because it means that new players can just jump right in without being concerned about picking up a whole bunch of expansions.

Trickster Online is a free to play MMORPG from Ntreev USA (http://www.tricksteronline.com/). It can best be described as a 2d game done with a very anime-like style. To be very honest it is very, very unique and not like any other MMO on the market. The entire premise of the game is that the incredibly wealthy founder of a game company has passed away and left his fortune to all who are willing to participate in his final game, which is called “Trickster”. You travel out to a desert island to stake your claim for part of the fortune by playing this game.

Kicks Online is a new and quite different type of MMO coming out from gametribe.com. It is a football (American soccer) game focusing on the player controlling a single character in a 3 on 3, 4 on 4 or 5 on 5 pick-up match. The website is owned and operated by Game Media Networks and will function as a portal to the games they are offering.

REVIEW Myth War is a 2D MMORPG being published by IGG.com. It can best be described as a pet-oriented, cel-shaded game that encourages teamwork with other players. This was the first of three (soon to be four) completely free games from the company, which makes money by selling various items in an item mall for real world money. With all of this in mind, I wanted to take a look at the game as a whole.

REVIEW KartRider is the newest game from Nexon, the same company who has brought you Maplestory. This game can best be described as an almost exact clone of the classic MarioKart series of games from Nintendo. Basically, you pick a driver out of a male or female one (though there should be more available from their cash shop) and jump right into their tutorial missions.

REVIEW Granado Espada is the latest game from Hak Kyu Kim, who is best known for the widely popular Ragnarok Online. The game itself placed in a 17th century European setting and boasts a new and innovative way to play MMORPGs. While the game is still months from launch, I took a peek at the Singeporean version hosted by Infocomm Asian Holdings, that is in beta as we speak.

REVIEW It is much like any other MMO. You set your characters hair, armor colors, face. When you first come into the game, they give you a two sets of armor, a bow, sword, and a few skills to start out with. You can choose between melee or magic, and hone your skills.
