Award Season 2013

Award Season 2013

It is award season. You can’t turn on the news without seeing the latest news on the BAFTAs, Grammys, and Oscars. What you won’t see on TV though are the announcements for the things that matter most to us at OnRPG. I’m talking about video game awards, specifically those relating to MMOs. So here are announcements from three huge awards in the business that won’t be on the six o’clock news.

5 MMOs Enter the MMO Hall of Fame

Five MMOs have been entered into the MMO Hall of Fame after a voting process with the nominating committee for the MMO Hall of Fame. This year’s committee included people from all over the industry including Matt Firor, President of ZeniMax Online, Bryan Koski, Marking Director of En Masse, Eric Bloom, Writer and Lead Vocalist of Blue Oyster Cult, and Carolyn Koh, an MMO Gaming Writer. And the 2013 Hall of Fame Inductees are:

RuneScape

Asheron’s Call

Dark Age of Camelot

City of Heroes

Meridian59

You can see this year’s inductees as well as previous inductees on the website Http://www.mmohall.com

Lifetime Achievement at GDC Awards Announced

The 13th annual Game Developers Choice Awards are being held on March 27 at the annual Game Developer’s Conference inSan Francisco. And while the nominations have been announced it is the Lifetime Achievement Award going to the Doctors of Bioware that everyone is talking about. Though they retired in October 2012, Doctors Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk are being honored. They founded Bioware in 1995 and worked there until they both retired.

Video Game BAFTA Award Nominations Announced

Last weekend the Film BAFTAs were held in England. But that isn’t the end of the BAFTA season. On March 5th the gaming industry will cast it’s eyes on Video Game BAFTAs in London. While a lot of the categories don’t have any MMOs in them at all RuneScape and The Settlers Online both make an appearance on the list, nominated for Online-Browser. Check back at OnRPG again after the awards to find out who won.
