Register and Earn a Pet

Voyage Century Online has a long reputation of being generous to their players. However, this time they are offering more than ever before! From June 24th until July 31st they will be giving away a free pet to players who register and start playing VCO. As if that wasn’t enough, they are also planning to give away pet first aid kits via the clock in game system. Next they’ll be announcing they’re throwing in the kitchen sink as an added bonus!

The variety of pets in this game is really surprising, and with such a bountiful selection to choose from, there’s bound to be something for everyone. Whether it’s the adorable bunnies of Beirut, the mysterious red-bodied Ghost Bats of Mallorca or the terrifying dinosaurs of Hurricane Island, the VCO team will have something for you!

After getting into the game and picking up a pet, player’s will need to take care of their pets, raise them, and train them, just like real ones. How much players care will determine how the pet grows, and how powerful it will become. Letting a pet starve will cause it to move slowly and lose health, as well as running the risk of losing it when it runs away to find a more caring master. On the other hand, for those pet lovers out there that take good care of their pets, they will find that the rewards for good pet care are many. In battle they provide a trustworthy comrade to assist in the fight, as well as being a source of fun and adventure while questing or on a long journey at sea.

Cue Online

Cue Online offers competitive billiards games including straight pool, nine-ball, eight-ball, carom and three-cushion billiards. Developed by Happy Nation, Cue Online delivers realistic billiards gameplay with a custom physics engine and was recently nominated as “Best Game of the
Month” by the Korean Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Happy Nation’s exclusive engine was designed to create as realistic of an environment as possible.  Each ball’s movement will depend on each player’s style, including stroke power, table contact, spin and strike quality with other balls, the cloth friction of the table and more.
Cue Online offers five different skills that players can increase and improve upon while training. The game’s skills include: Power, Spin, Push, Pull and Masse. Unlike other games where players automatically increase their skills as their average scores increase, Cue Online players will see their skills improve only after they successfully use that skill over time. As a result, two players in the same average score can have different main skills of their own, just like in the real life pool play.

Star Wars Galaxies: In an MMO Far, Far Away…

By Vincent Haoson (Vincenthaoson), Onrpg writer

Star Wars Galaxies is an MMO developed by Sony Online Entertainment that is set around the events right after the destruction of the first Death Star.

Your character, due to unknown reasons is woken up by C3PO and is immediately whisked away by Han Solo and Chewbacca from an imperial station. Your journey starts off by meeting the designated NPC that is linked to your path and doing the quests that is supposed to help you in your journeys.

I can has Lightsaber?

Before you are introduced into the world of wookies, jedis and other weird life forms, your first task would be to create your own Star Wars character. You get to choose from 12 races which are: the Bothan, the Human, the Ithorian, the Mon Calamari, the Rodian, the Sullustan, the Transdoshan, the Twi’Lek, the Wookie and the Zabrak.

After choosing the race of your character you can then edit the looks and the details of your avatar. You can also change the overall theme your character wears to suit your fashion needs.

Besides the character development, Star Wars Galaxies also gives you the choice of what path you would need to follow. There are nine basic professions you can choose to follow which are namely: the Jedi, the Bounty Hunter, the Smuggler, the Officer, the Commando, the spy, the Trader, the Medic and the Entertainer.

These professions are only the tip of the iceberg because you besides the nine professions you start with, there are other sub-professions you can choose from. You can even become a rebel or an empire pilot if you would like.

Welcome to Tattooine: What the game has to offer

With the Star Wars Universe  being very expansive and practically spanning from planet to planet, the game incorporates key planets such as Tatooine into the whole game. You would get to experience how life is in Luke Skywalker’s home planet or even go to Hoth where the rebel alliance still had their base there.

You are given a considerable amount of areas to cover and everything is put that is part of the whole Star Wars franchise is inserted into this MMO.

There are some features that the game has however that you can only enjoy if you invest money into the game.  For example, you can get to enjoy having your own ship that is like the Millenium Falcon. You can get to enjoy this though if you buy the game’s expansion.

Conclusion

Star Wars Galaxies is a game that has a rich history and considering the fan base of the movies, a large fanbase as well. The game offers a true Star Wars experience like no other however, for a game that’s already half a decade in operation there are a few problems the game must fix.

The first thing that the game needs to fix is the dated graphics engine that it uses. If Star Wars Galaxies wants to be at par with the games that are in the front of the MMO race nowadays the game needs to have cleaner sprites, better landscapes and more detailed design specially nowadays when even F2P games push a computer’s graphics engine to its limits. Besides, who would want their Wookie to pass through  an area that is littered with “stuff” like some ghost right?

Another thing is that the game controls needs to be tweaked. The game controls feels clumsy especially if you are not used to the keyboard for movement. The game’s clumsy controls remind me of the Resident Evil console games though the Star War Galaxies’ controls are smoother.

The game’s camera view as well needs to be considered. The game’s camera view twists and turns in an awkward fashion that sometimes this hinders your line of sight. This may not be problematic if you are just adventuring but this would be disruptive when laser barrels have begun shooting.

Even with the problem on the game controls and view, you shouldn’t count the game out. The game has a lot to offer besides carrying the famous Star Wars franchise on its back.

The game’s audio is something that is taken directly from the trilogy, who wouldn’t be excited to hear the familiar Star Wars theme as you start the your character creation. Unlike in most games out nowadays the game’s BGM is suitable enough to the overall feel of the Star Wars Universe.

What would a Star War’s game be without the amazing FMV sequences? Star Wars Universe has one of the smoothest FMVs I’ve seen thus far, of course why would you not expect it? Lucasarts, the company that practically built the whole Universe is the game’s publisher.

Besides the aesthetics and game’s sounds, the game features are something that attracts the player into the whole thing.  Who wouldn’t want to become a jedi and wield the world famous light saber? Or even become a bounty hunter? Or if you fancy yourself trying a new character class that earns more experience as a non-combatant go with the medics or entertainers.

The profession system in Star Wars Galaxies is something that can get the most jaded MMO players to be interested in trying out the numerous professions the game has to offer. Another considerable feature that the game has in reference to the professions is that they have the novelty thanks to the Star Wars fame.

Speaking of novelty, if you bought the game’s expansion, you can get your own ship made in the game. Who wouldn’t want to know how It feels to fly an X-wing, or even have their own Millenium Falcon? The universe in Star Wars is huge enough that you can just spend hours going from one planet to another.

You can also create your own city here in Star Wars Galaxies just as long as you passed the requirements set by the game a city under your name is only a few clicks away.

Star Wars Galaxies is in itself a treasure trove for fans of the movies and those who are just trying on something different for a change. There is something for anyone here however, unlike most MMOs where you can just spend about an hour or so playing and leave it, you’d need to spend a considerable amount of time in the game to get everything the game has to offer. The question is, are you up for it?

Pros:
– Unique Job Class system (Entertainer, Medics)
– You can create your own city within the game
– You can have your own space ship and explore the Star Wars universe (if you bought the expansion)
– Playing alongside iconic Star wars characters that fans have grown into and loved

Cons:
– Dated graphics
– Controls are hard to get used to
– You really need to immerse yourself to fully enjoy the game.

Everquest Review: Godlike After Years

By Kei Beneza (Dividelife), Onrpg writer

Being one of the first MMOs to ever hit the gaming screen, I could say that nothing is as good and satisfying as EverQuest. If I may use the term, I would say that this game used to be the World of Warcraft (WoW) of the gaming industry. Nothing immerses fans into the land of Role Playing better than EverQuest. Back then, this game’s graphics were ‘GODLIKE’, especially since the game has a lot of creeps walkin around which was quite unlikely for a game. The world was quite spectacular, with areas that gradually changes as you run further to explore new places within the game. You’ll be amazed at how big the world is. The game is so big you’d probably have a hard time exploring. Not to worry though; the more places you see, the more areas you tend to enjoy. That’s a lot better that goin through the same places over and over again cuz that’s just downright linear.

EverQuest review starting in three….. two…… one…….

What do I pick?!

Unlike most MMOs (and yes I mean most of them), EverQuest offers players a variety of race and class combinations. If you’re familiar with Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), then I say you’ll probably be overly satisfied with the game’s Character Creation features. There are sixteen races to choose from, and the classes are pretty much the same as the old basic D&D classes. Each race has their own town (/village or whatever you wanna call it) where your newly made character will start his journey.

There are 16 default classes in the game. Other races and classes however can be added to your list after buying some of the expansions (yes the game has those too). If I’m correct, this game has the most broad form of character creation in MMO history. You don’t really have to worry about getting a tank for your party since there are plenty of tanks to go around (different classes too). The game pretty much has a lot of each, whether it’d be nukers or range attackers. Like I said, the game’s practically GOD when it comes to character creation.

All hail…. uhh…. my Lord?

Aside from the races and classes, EverQuest lets players pick a deity whom they wish to worship. Worshiping deities can give you a lot of useful benefits. Some of the equipments in the game are tied to a specific god so make sure you pick the right one if ever you have a particular armor in mind. Gods also hinder you from entering places that are influenced by their rival gods. A drag I know, but heck at least I get to wear the armor.

Good day kind sir –OMG PWN

EverQuest is a game that revolves around roleplay (or in general at least). Everything else has been provided for players who are looking for the best role playing experience. Towns, deities, a bunch of classes, what more could you ask for? Like any MMO, this game lets you run raids, do trades, and of course join guilds. For an old MMO, it’s quite dated when it comes to the features (then again, this game may be the innovator of those features to begin with).

The game also has quests that help you progress faster. No these quests aren’t ‘grindy’. I’d even say that this game has the best Quests overall.

I need someone to…

While on their early levels, characters are able to go through obstacles on their own. Things however, become harder and harder as you progress through the game. It’s probably a good way for people to exercise the massively multiplayer part of the acronym. Joining parties make it a lot easier due to the buffs and of course the extra help. If you want to get something done without having to die so often, then I suggest you find a party and fast.

Astonishingly Beautiful

First of all, the visuals were quite good back then during its time. I was quite surprised how it managed to reach today’s gamers. No doubt that EverQuest is a breakthrough in MMO history. You can even use the first person view mode to get you closer to the action (remember that this was way back in 1999). You can probably call it World of Warcraft’s father of all its merits.

It’s a sure bet that this game’s graphics wont win against today’s MMO rpgs. One thing is for sure though; when it comes to their own respective timeline, this game beats all.

Turn it up!

One thing that makes you feel the power of role playing is of course the BGM and sound effects. The ingame music tends to blend with the ambiance most of the time. This of course means that it is close to being nonexistent while people are busy whacking monsters. In my book however, bgms are supposed to blend in with the ambiance to not sound like it’s being played through the media player. More points for the father of MMOs.

The verdict

Classic’s are often the best of the best. Not that it’s elitism talking, but rather their influence. These games are responsible for the new MMOs that we’re currently playing today. Whether it’s free to play or pay to play, nothing can ever change the fact that these things came from one primordial pool (which is of course the classics).

The visuals are really nice, considering the fact that this game has been around for more than 10 years. Getting to play with people on your dial up connection has never been this good. The fact that you get to enhance your features by purchasing expansions has always been good, cause this means that the game is continuously evolving. Character creation is Godlike, especially since it caters more classes than any other MMO in history. Getting to raid dungeons in MMOs has always been a treat, and this game is pretty much loaded with dungeons.

This is no ordinary MMO, this is a legend. So if you wanna play something good, then this game should be at the top of your list. Definitely the best of its kind.

The Good:
-roleplaying
-quests
-excellent character creation interface

The Bad:
outdated
-sounds lack the extra oomph
-horrific graphics.

Red War Interview: Preview To the Beta

Questions by Vincent Haoson, Onrpg writer
Answered by Mike Min, Producer and Chris Keswani, Marketing Manager

Uforia, the company that has provided us with amazing games such as Nostale and three kingdoms has brought another epic MMO that is centering on the war of Gods and the human-like beings they both protect.

Red War is the new MMO from this company and we here on Onrpg had an opportunity to talk to two people who are working behind the scenes with the game.

Onrpg:  What is the current situation of your Closed Beta?

Chris: We finished our Closed Beta recently.  The feedback we received from our players was phenomenal.  Our developers have taken these comments and are currently working on implementing these improvements.  The Open Beta will be held within one week from now and I encourage your readers to visit our official website for more details.

Onrpg:  What are the problems you faced as the closed beta is on-going?

Mike: We didn’t face any major problems fortunately.  The main barrier for players was that the graphics and we lost a lot before they even gave the game a chance.  Feedback from players that actually played the game was very positive though, and we are working hard on fixing and implementing the bug fixes and suggestions at the moment.

Onrpg:  Did you take any elements from other Uforia games and include it into Red War? What are they and why?

Chris: Red War: Edem’s Curse is a unique game compared to our other titles.  It is of course a MMO, but the features and game play are specific to this game. All games in our line-up have completely different background stories and are not connected in any way.

Onrpg:  Can you give us the background story for Red War?

Chris: Red War: Edem’s Curse has quite an interesting background story.  It starts off with a rift between two Gods. One of them, Astila, helps human-like beings escape to a new world in order to escape from the hardship and suffering of the other God.  This other God, Qelain, has control over the group of human-like beings that the first God was not able to help escape from the original world.  The game follows the conflict of these two groups and it is up the player to help the Edem (the chosen warriors) battle against the forces of evil and bring peace to the entire universe.

Onrpg:  Can you give a brief description of the three classes?

Mike: The three main classes are the Ranger, Mage, and Warrior. It does not sound like a lot, but once you reach level 20 each class branches off into a skill different tree, with unique skills and specializations.

The Ranger focuses on speed, and can move around significantly faster than the other two classes.   They’re a versatile class that can specialize in both melee and ranged weapons.  Both types do a lot of damage, and have access to different stuns as well.

The Mage is the typical “glass-cannon”, capable of causing lots of damage but being easy to kill.  And although all 3 classes have AoE attacks, the mage is the AoE specialist.  Eventually they split off into the Black Mage and the White Mage, with the Black Mage specializing in debuffs, and the White Mage specializing in buffs and heals.

The Warrior is the typical kill first, ask questions later class. They can run head first into combat, and have the stamina and defense to survive.  They can either specialize in spears and axes, which cause high amounts of damage, or swords and shields for their defensive capability.

Onrpg:  It seems that the game only has three classes in the first stage; will there be additions in the future? Why or why not?

Mike: We will not be adding new classes in the near future.  What we are looking into is creating new skill trees and specializations for each class.  For example, a new “Red Mage” tree, which will combine different elements of the Black and White magic lines.  So although we will be keeping the base 3 classes as is, there will always be new content added for each individual one.

Onrpg:  As of the moment what is the most favored class of those who are going through the closed beta? Why do they say so?

Mike: I am not sure there is one favored class to be honest.  We had a good mix of all three classes during the CBT, and they all seemed happy with the balance between the three, and the capabilities of their class.

Onrpg:  What are the key features of the game?

Mike: A couple of the major features include the Red War Tournament, and the Castle Sieges.  The Red War Tournament occurs three times a day, and is basically an all-out, team-based PvP match.  What makes it unique is that all players are set to level 80 at the start of the tournament, and they can reallocate their stats as they see fit.  This make the tournament not a contest of who has more high-level players, but one of team-work and skill.

The Castle Sieges are a big feature of the game as well.  These are Guild versus Guild PvP matches that fight over different castles and territories.  The winners of the Siege actually do own that castle, and can use it as bragging rights, and just as a place to hang out with their guild-mates.  Each castle also has a dungeon underneath it that the castle owners can access for free.  They are great places to level up with your guild and earn nice items and gold as well.

Onrpg:  What are the features you have in the game that are conducive for a healthy community?

Mike: We have plenty of dungeons in the game that require a party to complete.  There are plenty of unique items and bosses in them as well, which encourages players to interact with one another, and form groups to conquer them.

We also have chat rooms that players can create very easily.   It’s a nice place to hang out with friends, and can be protected by passwords for privacy.

And like I mentioned earlier, the Castle Sieges are very rewarding, and really encourage you to find active guilds and encourage teamwork as well.

Onrpg:  What do you think is the game’s main attraction for players?

Mike: Judging from the feedback we received during Closed Beta, players really like the fact that the game is almost like a Diablo MMORPG.  It really does have that look and feel, and people that are looking for that sort of experience are sure to love Red War.

Onrpg:  What additions would you include when the game goes live?

Mike: We’re hard at work fixing the bugs that were discovered during Closed Beta.  We’re also creating a new town and dungeon that players didn’t get to see during the CBT, and a nifty new system that I can’t disclose at the moment.

Onrpg:  How long do you think it would take till the game goes live?

Chris:  It is hard to say really.  We want to make sure everything is perfect before we go live, so we’re taking a wait and see approach to it.

Onrpg:  What made you say that it would take the game this long before it goes commercial?

Chris: As is the case with any game in open beta it is difficult to predict when all of the improvements will be implemented and tested.  We have a very comprehensive review and implementation program in place so that our developers and us are constantly in contact regarding the changes they are making.  However, sometimes certain implementations take longer than expected.

We really want to make sure that we do not release the game commercially unless these improvements have been made and therefore would rather take a bit more time to make sure everything is just right.

Onrpg:  What are the things you will let players experience once the game goes open beta? Would there be character wipe-outs after the OBT?

Mike: There is one major system that we’ll be adding to the game sometime during Open Beta, along with different maps and dungeons.  We’ll be having plenty of events as well during the period.

Chris: And no, there will be no wipes after OB has ended!

Onrpg:  What can players expect in the succeeding months ahead?

Mike:  Plenty of new content!  We have loads of things we are working on at the moment, and will be adding new and exciting things based on player suggestions as well.  I am especially excited about adding new skill trees, it will really add another layer of depth, and I’m sure that the players are going to enjoy it as well.

Onrpg:  Thank you for your time!

Mike and Chris: It was our pleasure.

Dungeon Fighter Beta Application Program

Nexon America is now accepting Closed Beta tester applications for its upcoming action-adventure title Dungeon Fighter Online. The deadline for applications is July 6. (Nexon will release the dates of the Closed Beta test at a later time.)

Dungeon Fighter Online pairs classic arcade-style action game play with an immersive RPG fantasy world and brings both online for one incredible free-to-play experience. Individuals who are selected as Closed Beta testers will be among the first in North America to venture into the mystical world of Arad, a peaceful land beset on all sides by the forces of darkness.

To beat back the sinister tide, players choose to be one of five character classes – Fighter, Gunner, Mage, Priest or Slayer – each with its own abilities and devastating attack combinations. From there, it’s off on a fantastic journey through Arad’s towns and villages, where a colorful ensemble of quirky characters send players on increasingly perilous quests. Along the way, players can fully customize themselves with weapons, armor and, of course, the most killer threads.

Playing online further enhances the experience, as players can chat and message with friends, trade and auction items, form parties to tackle dungeons as a team, and much, much more.
