Luna Online Review: Oh They’re So Cute!

Luna Online Review: Oh They’re So Cute
By Kei Beneza (dividelife), OnRPG Journalist

When it comes to having the cutesy characters, nothing comes close to the cuteness factor of Luna Online. Big eyed cell shaded anime characters, petite build; it’s like a whole world of chibified (small dimension) characters ready to kill you with their jolly smiles. Luna Online has a certain charm that no other MMO could mimic. I know we’ve seen tons of big eyed MMOs but this game just has everything going for it.

Lune online is all about meeting new people online as well as fighting alongside them in order to overcome the hardest obstacles. You could say that the game lets players focus more on their social status rather than the game itself. There’s nothing bad with that concept, considering that this is an MMORPG after all. And what better way to role play than to actually use your character to converse and make new allies?

Starting Up

I was a bit disappointed after seeing only two races in the character creation screen. You’re basically supposed to choose between Human and Elf which are only separated by their future class types. There are no racial abilities and both races start up with the same three archetypes (Fighter, Mage, Rogue). Aside from their appearances, the only thing that separates these two races would be their stats upon starting the game Worry not because these classes tend to go separate ways as you progress in the game.

Bell Luna Online

Absolute Pinnacle of Cuteness

The game has a lot of classes to choose from (40+ at the most) once you reach their designated level. Some of the classes are exclusive to each race so you shouldn’t really worry about them being the same. After picking your hair style and eye color, it’s time to start playing.

The Game Actually Helps Us!

Unlike most MMOs, Luna Online is quite charitable with gears and necessities. After going through some tough leveling, the game actually rewards you with a bunch of items that can be acquired through some sort of reward box. This is actually a good feature since MMOs are starting to feel like work nowadays.

Come Here, Honey

If you’re looking for a romantic activity for you and your date then you’d probably want to consider going out to kill monsters with her (works for me LOL). The dating system lets players pair up with other characters who share their likes and dislikes. It’s more or less a virtual blind date but it does have its merits. Dating is one way of getting good gear as this feature lets virtual couples access the game’s special instances. These instances give tons of special stuff so you might want to consider getting a date as this instance is reserved for couples only. Think of it as a free class A restaurant that’s only available for dating couples (what are you waiting for?).

Make Friends

Start a Farm Together

Grab em’ Kids! We Be Steadyin’ Up Da Farm

After you enjoy raiding instances with your loved one, you might want to consider making a farm since it provides a nice set of items for you and your family. Having a family is the same as having a guild, letting you duke it out with enemy guilds (Families) as well as benefit from having to own your own farm. Farms are exclusive only to families and require a hefty maintenance fee. It’s not meant to discourage you really, farms are quite important and could help you make your character better (not to mention richer).

Character Development

The game respects the traditional Stat system which is quite similar to that of Ragnarok online and Fiesta. There are five main stats to choose from which makes the game even harder as each level gained only offers you 1 point to distribute. Worry not, for a single point does make a lot of difference in terms of your character’s performance.

The game also lets you craft items (what’s new?) for your character to wield. Although as troublesome as most crafting systems, it always pays to have better gear. Why bother buying and purchasing items if you can make your own kickarse one right?

Shielded

Craft Your Own Gear

One thing that most MMOs don’t have is the Fishing System. You might be familiar with this gimmick after playing games like Dekaron and World of Warcraft; however, fishing in this game gives you something else other than money. FP or Fish Points as they call it lets you purchase rare items like gear and consumables. Fishing is a boring hobby, but if it gives you better items then why not?

Graphics and Gameplay

Starting off with the game’s control scheme, Luna online uses the point and click system which is a bit outdated in today’s MMO Meta. You basically have to click on your target while pressing the number keys to execute your skills. Since the game doesn’t feature that many obstructions, the click and point system is greatly accepted. You’ll be surprised at how competitive this game is despite the user friendly controls.

The graphics are composed of cellshaded characters that blend well with their bright and colorful background. Since the game is all about cutesy characters, there’s no reason to add much detail to the structures (as well as trees). The interface is pretty much a buffed up Ragnarok Online, with a hotkey bar, upper left status bar, and a trusty map box. Most of the NPCs have anime portraits as well but are currently a bit too sexy compared to their “chibified” in game models.

The Verdict

Is it worth playing? Damn hell it is! The game is pretty awesome when it comes to character development as it lets you pick between an array of 40 classes (no need to ask for more right?). Hybrid builds are strongly discouraged as the stronger skills cannot be unlocked while sharing other class skills. Your best bet would be to head on a linear path in order to compliment your character’s original playstyle. Graphics are dated but still acceptable. Even though they’re nothing but cellshaded characters, I don’t see the reason why we should improve the game’s graphics any further.

The dating system is quite fun although I’ll have to agree with some speculations regarding other men making female characters. You better be careful since your soulmate may actually be of the same gender. There’s a lot of things to do and it doesn’t look like you’re about to run out of tasks any time soon. Cute and fun, this game is a must try.

Pros:
– It’s extremely cute
– Instances
– Lots of fun things to do (Fishing, etc.) with tons of good rewards
– The game doesn’t burn labor out of you.
– 40 classes man… what more could you ask for?

Cons:
– Outdated controls
– Lack of hybrid building
– Everyone starts off with the same 3 classes
– Needs more character creation features.

Why Should I Pay For My MMOs?

Why Should I Pay For My MMOs?
By Mohammad Abubakr, (Abubakr) OnRPG Writer

Most users on OnRPG play Free to Play (F2P) Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games. Many users requesting a game in our request section point out that a game should be free, if they would play it. MMO players often think “Why should I pay for my games, when I can play them for free?” Sure, you can find many quality games that are free, but we all know they come with item shops. Still, there are many great games with a monthly fee, the Pay to Play (P2P) games!

Paying to Play

Pay to Play games require you to buy the game, and pay a monthly fee. This can sound like quite a sum when added up. These games are usually more enjoyable than F2P games. They often present a higher quality gameplay and are more finished at the start. P2P games usually offer a better community and customer support as well. The companies will be very likely to help you out, as you are paying them after all. Even if you are not a subscriber they will respond nicely, hoping to get you to buy the game. It is not just because the company wants your money, but you are also expecting good support from them because you are a valuable customer. The gaming companies will try their best to help you out with your problems in the game.

Lord of the Rings Online

Lord of the Rings Online

Another factor which determines if the game is worth playing or not is the community. Although, games like World of Warcraft do not have the greatest community, there are many P2P games (such as Lord of the Rings Online) which have a great community. The players will help you out, give you advice, and will respect your opinion. Some players might also be willing to run you through dungeons or help out with quests you are stuck on. P2P games also have less gold sellers. Although you will see some, the GMs will quickly take care of them.

People often complain about the ‘10 year old noobs’ ruining their game. You will not see many of these kids playing P2P games because:
1. They do not have money to pay the monthly fee. (Unless parents pay for them.)
2. Most P2P games are not aimed toward children.

There still are noobs ruining the community on some games but the community is better overall.

Balancing the Cash

Also, when people play F2P games, they complain about an over-powered cash shop. Players who use the cash shop in some games gain a clear advantage over the free players. This results in many people complaining about the cash shop items, but usually nothing is changed. The F2P game publishers need to make some profit. Most of this profit is made through the cash shop. These situations are found to be unfair because some people simply have more to spend than others.

If you play a P2P game you will not have to worry about another player having over-powered items just because he spent more money on the game. Since everyone is already paying a monthly fee, the publisher is making a nice profit to keep the game running. This means a cash shop is not needed. Some P2P MMOs still have a cash-shop, but it barely influences anything in the game and is only meant for luxuries.

The Investment

Best of all, you will usually enjoy a P2P game more than an F2P game. The publishers usually have a larger budget than most F2P game publishers. Since there is more money to spend on the game, your suggestions will be considered and the game will be updated more often. Please keep in mind that some F2P games are starting to make a lot more money than some P2P games!

The publishers will spend a lot of money during development to bring you a quality game. This means that the game will feature exclusive features, good graphics (does not have to be realistic, could be a unique art style) and bug-free gameplay.

When playing P2P games, gamers will consider their remaining game-time (the amount of time you have left to play the game). After the time runs out (usually 30 days) you can buy more gametime or stop playing. In this setup players aim to get things done on time, and in a good fashion. While in F2P games, there are no obligations to the player because they are not paying a dime.

Quality Graphics of P2P Games

Quality Matters

Pay to Play games generally lack Engrish. The game developers have a lot more money than most F2P game developers, so they can properly write out the quests, NPCs, and the story by hiring professional writers. It’s not fun when decyphering a quest takes longer than completing it.

Some games are considered F2P, but lock up some of the more interesting features. To unlock these, you must pay a subscription fee. An example could be Runescape. While you can do a lot of things in the game, you are limited to some skills and weapons unless you pay monthly for Runescape. If you pay, you can fully play the game and not have to worry about inaccessible areas, skills, jobs, and items. The concept works, because the people who don’t have so much to spend still enjoy the game to a large degree and enjoy quality game-play. Yet there’s always this wall you’re left behind, in the end.

How to Get some Cash

Now, for everyone who says “I don’t have any money, so I can’t play”. I have made a few options for you guys and girls to make some money. These may seem obvious, but following any of these steps will get you enough ($15) to pay monthly for any P2P games. It is up to you, which method you would like to follow.

1. Ask your parents/family. This would have to be the easiest method. You will never know if your parents will allow you to play or not, until you ask.
2. Get a part time job. If you’re old enough to work, why not get a part time job. This way you’ll have plenty of money for the game and all your other needs!
3. Paperboy. Now, this could count as a part time job, but I have decided to give this a separate category because anyone can do this, regardless of age. If you do 1-2 streets you can easily get enough money for a P2P game.
4. Make use of your skills. Let’s say you’re good with computers. Why not make use of it by fixing and configuring computers for others who are still learning.
5. PPT sites or do offers. There are many websites out there, which are legit and will actually pay you for doing offers, surveys, or just clicking on ads. I’m not allowed to post them here for promotion, so look around on Google.
6. Gaming Tournaments. Think you’re really good at a game? Why not compete with other gamers and win some money while having lots of fun!
7. Grind for friends. Are your friends too lazy to level or search for that rare item? Why not do it for them, for a fee of course. This method is not recommended as I don’t like charging friends, for anything.
8. Sell your stuff. Almost everybody probably has some stuff lying around the house, which you don’t need. Why not sell this to someone who will make use of it?

Paper Boy

Summer Jobs

Worth the Money

In conclusion, I would like to say if you have any money to spare, which everyone should after following my tips, then please go out and try one the P2P games. It’ll be an experience that is totally different from F2P games, if that is all you play. Even if you don’t have money, try out a trial. I would strongly recommend most P2P games over F2P games. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any good F2P games, because there certainly are a few. The attitudes are changing into ‘if it’s not free I won’t play it’, but you may just find it’s worth the money.

Eudemons Online Interview: A Look into Demon Rising

Eudemons Online Interview: A Look into Demon Rising
By Joshua Piercy (elazulblack), OnRPG Journalist

Eudemons is a game which focuses on questing and raising demons known as “Eudemons”. It has been around for several years now, but continues to be very successful and continues to be updated frequently. The most recent of these updates, “Demon Rising”, introduces new high level content to the game in the form of new dungeons, as well as new bosses. We at OnRPG had the opportunity to speak to the product manager of Eudemons Online in order to get a closer look at this update.

OnRPG: Hello! We appreciate you taking the time to answer our questions about Eudemons Online. Before we get into the questions though, could you please introduce yourself?
Well thank you! Hi, everybody, my name is Doris Zheng. I am the product manager of Eudemons Online. It’s a great pleasure for me to have this opportunity to introduce our newly released expansion, Demon Rising.

Horseback Eudemons

OnRPG: The title “Demon Rising” is rather ambiguous. Could you please tell us more about the back-story of Demon Rising?
Demon Rising has opened a new era for Eudemons Online. It is a story about corruption, not all about the good against the evil. You can call it an extension, in which, the good fall and the evil rise. The story is related to the Divine Path, our last expansion, about what happened on Cronus after the triumph of the first Demon War. One of the Divine Generals, Alamut, suffered the loss of his beloved wife after being betrayed by his Kingdom. He abandoned his faith and surrendered his soul to the vicious Demon King. The Demon King was very clear that it was the chance he’d been waiting for the entire time. For years, they’d been trying to find a breakthrough, taking revenge for what they’d lost in the last battle, and now they got it. Thus, the avenging Alamut was endowed with unparalleled demonic power and started to hit his stride of vengeance.

OnRPG: What new content can be found within Demon Rising other than new monsters and new quests?
In the first part of the expansion, we didn’t bring any new function or items. The quests are the major content. The fact is, we would like our players to discover more possibilities with the existing functions and to challenge themselves. Talking about other features, the first noticeable feature is the graphic. A vast and complicated quest region is open to adventurers. Players will be thrilled when they see the fabulous landscapes.

Demon Map Eudemons

New gameplay mechanics has also be introduced to our players. Players have to rely on one another so as to defeat the final Boss, all the while trying very hard not to get killed.

OnRPG: Will any of the new content available be accessible by new or low level players?
The new quests are accessible to players who are level 50+ . We strongly recommend players team up to do the quests.

OnRPG: I see that there are several new dungeons available in the new expansion. Could you please describe them a bit?
In this expansion, every quest has its own independent map. Our designers have spent lots of time and massive efforts have been dedicated to making this part perfect. The maps are full of unexpected dangers and traps. Each new environment creates a memorable experience for the player. We’ve worked on little details to make sure that each one is distinct with own unique feel. Sometimes players will find some hidden hints on some specific spots in the map during the process which will later be found indispensable. Sometimes they have to talk to a specific NPC so that they can proceed to the next step. Your eyes have to be wide open when you are wondering in the mystic place.

Demon Rising Eudemons

OnRPG: How will players access these dungeons? Where are they found?
A scroll will be put in your inventory. Right click to open it. The list of the quests will be displayed. Click on the quest you are doing. Then the Auto-Path system will automatically direct you to the destination. Talk to the NPC, and then, you will sent into the dungeon. It’s simple.

OnRPG: Eudemons Online has been around for several years, and still remains popular. How do you explain your success?
Fantasy is a rather old MMO genre. How to stand out and stay vibrant is the thing. Since the release of Eudemons Online, the team has been very clear that only to keep improving, bringing new elements and to build a strong player community, can this game survive and thrive. In the past few years, we have released quite a few major updates to meet the players’ growing demands, including a new class named Paladin which helps balance the gameplay, new skills, new quests, new Eudemons and the Apotheosis system, which grants players with god-like power. There are more but I suppose no need to list them all here. The point is, we always stay connected with the players, listening carefully to their thoughts. We’re proud to have a very active and engaged community playing this game right now. They came up lots of good ideas which later turn into reality in game. Without their support, we could never have come so far. It’s great to see that our players love this new expansion. We really worked very hard on it?That’s exactly what we want to see. The results are very encouraging!

OnRPG: Eudemons Online features an item mall in which players can purchase various items and outfits using EPs. Are there any new items which will available for purchase alongside the release of Demon Rising?
No for now, soon there will be, though! haha…

OnRPG: The website says that there are new gameplay mechanics in Demon Rising. Can you please describe these new mechanics?
We can refine the definition into just one word, teamwork. In the past, players used to do quests on their own. In this expansion, the quests are extremely difficult. What players will be confronted is nothing like before. Players will be going through a legendary quest line in this new expansion. There are 5 independent quests, along with some other sub-quests. Only by defeating the other 4 demon leaders will the players gain the key and other powers indispensable to defeating Avenging Alamut, the final and most challenging leader of the demonic horde. The last quest is ranked a 9-star difficulty quest.

For the first-try players, no one can handle it on their own, not even the player of the highest BP. You will be encountering all kinds of traps and dangers. Besides, there is time limit for the quests. Thus, team work between different classes’ combinations and strategic cooperation become vitally important. Players have to build a great team, discussing how to cope with the situations they are going to meet. It could be very challenging and exciting! The quests really help improve players’ gaming techniques. Keep it up, you’ll only grow stronger and stronger.

Alamut Eudemons

OnRPG: What is your personal favorite addition to the game which can be found in Demon Rising? Why?
No doubt, the quests. To be honest, I haven’t passed the last one yet. Lol… Every time I was close to reaching the final success, it turned out to be another unsuccessful attempt. I have to work harder, I guess. 😀

OnRPG: What sort of new world items can players expect to find in Demon Rising?
Well, just as we’ve promised before, what we have now is not the full content of this expansion. And now, our players can start the count-down to embrace their long-expected FLYING MOUNT!!  Yes, that’s true. Very soon!  You know what, when I first saw these lovely mounts, they remind me quite of the gigantic blazing flying dragon in AVATAR! Lol…Anyway, they are pretty cool. And there will be more features coming in near feature. All you need to do is keep a close eye on us.

Flying Mount Eudemons

Enjoy the long-expected flying mounts

OnRPG: In Demon Rising, players will have to defeat four “demon leaders”, as well as a more powerful boss, “Avenging Alamut”. What is the idea behind these demons? Are there any particular themes which they follow?
Good v.s evil, or white v.s black, is the permanent topic. While this time, we are looking into a rather grey part, with two kinds of blood blended. If you look into the background story, you will find that most of the Bosses leading the Demons fought on the human side during the last Demon War. The story is about corruption, that is to say, humans are facing enemies of their own making this time. Evil defeats good when good becomes evil. But why did they fall and how?  That’s how the story goes.

OnRPG: What was your inspiration behind Demon Rising? What motivated you to create the content in this expansion?
After the Divine Path was released, we started the project of Demon Rising. How should the story develop? What kinds of additions should be brought in game…things like that…In the end, we came up with the idea of corruption, the good fall and the evil rise. Demon Rising is supposed to provide a deeper, more polished and engaging gaming experience for our players

OnRPG: What can Eudemons players expect to find in future content updates beyond Demon Rising?
We will have new flying mounts, as I just mentioned, and some new extending quests. Hopefully, there will be more features in future. For now, I can just assure these. Our team is working on the project now. I am expecting to see the new content as bad as you are!

OnRPG:  What would you consider to be your favorite Eudemon available in the entire game?
Oh, there are many kinds of Eudemons, mainly divided in 2 groups, mage and warrior. Speaking of my favorite Eudemon, I have to mention the Astral Eudemons. We released the astral series last fall. Every month, they will be one constellation Eudemon released. To me, my favorite one is the Gemini Eudemons. Gemini is my sign. 😀

OnRPG: Do you have any final words that our readers?
Well, I’d like to first thank our fans who have been helping us spreading the word and we appreciate every bit of help they’ve given us. Their involvement is the game’s biggest success. And then, to all, Demon Rising is something you really don’t want to miss. Everybody should really take a shot! It won’t let you down! We’ll be doing our best to bring up more features!

OnRPG: Thank you very much for your time!

MabinogiÂ’s new content: Taillteann Town

Mabinogi’s new content: Taillteann Town

Mabinogi’s new content update will feature Taillteann Town, a new zone being introduced along with the new Alchemy skill set.  At the center of Taillteann, players will be able to socialize and set up personal shops to sell in-game items.

In Taillteann, players can also access Taillteann headquarters, where they can acquire Shadow Missions and start new adventures.  For Elves and Giants, their headquarter camps are located at opposite ends of the town.

While visiting Taillteann, players looking to improve their Alchemy skills can spend some time at the Alchemist’s House where they can practice and learn alchemy.  Marked by the old lady, Dorren, and the Alchemy ovens outside, this house is hard to miss.

Northwest of the town, Stonehenge can be found.  These massive stone formations mark the entrance to the Shadow Realm, where all Shadow Missions start.  For those seeking to begin their adventures in the Shadow Realm, they should travel here only after acquiring their missions at the headquarters.

Another completely new system being added is the farming system.  At the southern part of the town, players can visit the farm manager and rent out a farm, where they can grow their very own crops.  At the end of each week, they can harvest the crops and reap the rewards of their hard work.

Runes of Magic Review: Most Solid Among MMORPGS

Runes of Magic Review: Most Solid Among MMORPGs
By Joshua Temblett (Dontkillmydreams), OnRPG Journalist

As a gamer, familiarity is something that you’ll either love or horribly despise; this particularly applies to MMORPGs. How you feel about the genre and its lack of evolution throughout the years will deeply impact your perception of Runes of Magic (RoM), and whether or not the entertainment it provides is something you’ll actively seek or run away from. Finding out if this MMO game is for you, unfortunately, will require you to go through a lot of hoops. Is it worth it?

Getting Into The Game

The registration process on the official Runes of Magic website is quick and easy, but the downloading process can be a long one. If you have an internet speed which is as quick as an Olympic runner this won’t apply so much, but if you lack a fast connection then just be warned that it will take a long time to actually be able to play the game. It took nearly all day for me to download the client and to then install the patches. Of course patience is the key, however just be aware that it may be a while before you can jump into the world of Taborea and experience its riches.

After you’ve logged into the game and begin to create your own character, you’ll be welcomed by a huge array of customisation options. You’ll be able to adjust a lot of features whilst creating your character, most remarkably you’ll be able to change the size of your character’s breasts. Hopefully I don’t have to elaborate any further about how great the character creator is.

Visual Masterpiece?

Before we dive into the gameplay, let’s take just a moment to talk about the visual approach the developers (Runewalker) have taken to Runes of Magic (obviously they like runes a lot). The game has been somewhat criticised for looking a lot like World of Warcraft. Whilst the look may put some off, the developers have really done a great job by making the world look beautifully appealing.

Friends

Appealing Visuals

Although shadows are pixelated and character animations are horrible and un-synced, the game pulls off a cartoony visual style that really suits the world the developers are trying to create and portray. The game’s architecture looks particularly stunning as it takes on an medieval/renaissance/fantasy look, which is very visually appealing. The visuals certainly make up for many of Runes of Magic’s technical flaws. The landscapes you’ll explore will look barren and generic for a fantasy game; however the truly beautiful cities are something to be admired.

You’ve Got A Friend In Me

Runes of Magic is surrounded by controversy, much to do with the running of the game by the admins and because it looks like World of Warcraft. Despite these issues more than two million people have created an account and played this game. This shows in the forums and in game as you will see plenty of people running around, leveling up and chatting to each other. A strong community builds a solid foundation for any MMO.

As with any online game as it can be hard to become accepted within the community and truly enjoy the experience. Runes of Magic doesn’t break this formula, but once you take the plunge, you’ll never regret it.

How Does It Play?

Once you get into the game you’ll encounter a load of similarities with many other MMORPGs, which gives it a high level of familiarity and ease to get into. Everything is where you would expect it to be. Whether or not this is a good thing is completely dependent on your tastes, for you see as soon as you enter Runes of Magic you’ll either cringe in disgust or happily clap your hands.

Allow me to explain. If you’ve played a modern MMORPG then you’ve played Runes of Magic. Perhaps I’m not giving the game enough merit and just classifying it as an unoriginal, uninspiring piece of interactive entertainment, when really that’s not the case. You see, what the developers have done is taken ideas and features from other MMORPGs, most of them Pay to Play, and have skilfully implemented them into Runes of Magic. This means you’ve got a game that can easily outdo other games in the Free to Play market, whilst at the same time being slightly better than some of the P2P titles available.

Class Change Runes of Magic

Runes of Magic Class Change Options

Features such as houses and class changes (to your secondary class) make an appearance in Runes of Magic, all of which work very well and are all designed to accommodate your hopefully long stay in the game’s universe. Of course, you can put a whole bounty of features in a MMORPG, however if the gameplay is somewhat lacking then surely that eradicates the purpose of such things. Unfortunately, this is where Runes of Magic slightly slips up.

Before I go any further into the matter, I just want to say that if you’re looking for a solid MMORPG experience, then Runes of Magic will suit your taste. The WASD controls work perfectly and the battle system is substantial (if not generic) and enables you to quickly and efficiently deal with any monster that you come across. You promptly gain new skills, although some of them do feel slightly worthless or similar to others, which will always give you an incentive to level up. The skill bar is adeptly positioned, at the bottom of the screen, to suit your array of spells and the HUD is nice and clean.

The problem is that whilst the gameplay is concrete, the design simply doesn’t support it and emphasises its lack of evolution as you progress through the game. What this essentially amounts to is a long grind that may completely discourage you from the game after the first few levels. In fact after roughly the seventh or eighth level you’ll suddenly encounter a lack of experience points from quests and monsters that may completely put you off. Again, this fits in the general MMORPG class, but I was hoping for more.

To put it simply, leveling in Runes of Magic is a routine. You’ll pick up the quests from a town, or a camp or wherever else there’s congregation of NPCs, go out into the map, kill monsters, talk to another NPC or fetch some sort of item. You’ll then return to said town, trade in your quests and gain a minimal amount of experience points. What really doesn’t help is that even though you’ll only spend about an hour or so completing the quests, it’ll feel like you’ve been doing the same monotonous chore for hours.

That’s what the quests are: they’re chores, and the lack of variety in them doesn’t really help. So whilst you’ve got a solid game that plays well, it’s designed in such a way to only offer you a time sink. For people looking to also kill some time in a good looking environment, that could work. You’ll spend ten levels in one map, doing the same old quests and fighting the same old monsters, then after you’ve hit the appropriate level, you’ll move on to another map and so forth. Runes of Magic’s cash shop items don’t really do anything to alleviate the grind. Whilst the offerings in the cash shop are quite cool, you can buy mounts, pets, items for your house, whether you’ll find yourself truly invested in the game to want to buy them is another question entirely. So they haven’t allowed the cash shop items to unbalance the game, but some questing or leveling options might have been nice.

I personally could not deal with this constant cycle as the motivation Runes of Magic provided wasn’t enough for me to continue struggling through the flawed game design. However, it may well be a completely different experience for you. Next to that, the higher levels offer new content as well. If you and your friends are looking for a solid game to play, then really you couldn’t go wrong with this one as having some companions along will definitely increase the fun factor.

Fun Factor

Fun is in the challenges you face together

Conclusion

To summarise, if you’re looking for something unique then Runes of Magic won’t appeal to you. If you’re looking for an appealing, generic MMORPG, then you need not look any further. It completely depends on what you’re looking for in your online fix. If you’re wondering about trying it, in my honest opinion, you should download it (unless you deeply hate the familiar) as you’ll quickly find out whether or not it’s your cup of tea.

Pros:
– Solid gameplay
– Beautiful cities
– Large community.

Cons:
– Repetitive
– Technically inferior graphics
– Game Design.
