Angels Online: Rush into the Sunshine Palace

The Floating Island, a fantastical flying paradise, is the brand new addition to the world of Angels Online. It will bring awesome new scenes, brand new classes, abundant new content, fiercer quests and challenges for little Angels in the very near future. So now the Angels Online team from IGG are very proud to give you a sneak peak at the Sunshine Palace, one of the brand new scenes from the Floating Island.

Light your torch and rush into the dark
Archaeologists in Eden discovered a mysterious lair in the middle of the continent. It is said that a gorgeous palace hides deep in its depths holding abundant treasures that are guarded by an ancient dragon. Legions of monsters have been sent out by the Evil Lyceum to gather around the den. This is where the story and the adventure begin…

Players have no choice but to pass through 4 different environments including the den entrance, the wet den, the garden and the palace if they want to arrive at their final destination…Located in the middle of Eden, the den entrance is connected with the Deity Palace Ruins. Players can enter the Dragon Field from the entrance in the Deity Palace Ruins and then begin their new adventure.

Dragon Field
Players can enter the mysterious den in the desert by passing through the entrance in the Deity Palace Ruins. It is said that the breath of an ancient dragon fills this abysmal den. An artificially created river flows through the entire length of it. Deathless dragon guards, rotten corpses and evil monsters are all waiting to attack the unwary.

Hermit Wetland
When players go deeper into the den they will find that the buildings are more and more grandiose. Legions of monsters gather around them. They are the messengers of death. Players must keep their wits about them for these are no ordinary monsters! They are bestowed with new and unknown dark powers. The sluggishly trickling stream affords the dark den a small amount of life even attracting hermits who want to live in solitude.

Flower Corridor
Once players finally make it through the oppressive depths of the den the world will suddenly become bright again. The Flower Corridor is a land of idyllic beauty. Colorful flowers envelop the extravagant buildings and they have become home to some creatures that had become sick of the noisy world outside. They settled here a long time ago and claimed it for their own.  They may look cute and lovely but they will defend their home jealously to the death.  Players should never expect to be treated warmly like a guest here.

Sunshine Palace
The holy Sunshine Palace has maintained its magnificent splendor even though several centuries have passed. The crystal clear river and the immaculate flower beds remind people of its past glory. A group of loyal palace guards still wander around the palace. In the very bowels of the palace, a throne cursed by a terrible magic power stands ion the way of all who wish to pass. But why? What are they trying to protect? Some unknown secrets or treasures? And where is the ancient dragon?

The Angels Online team will be releasing the new “Floating Island” addition in the very near future. An exciting adventure in the sky, brand new challenge quests, infamous ancient robot monsters, gorgeous spells and skills, awesome equipment and a mysterious new class… All of these are almost ready to give our little Angels an even more awesome game experience.

The Dreaded MMO Fanboyism Disease

The Dreaded MMO Fanboyism Disease
By Kei Beneza (dividelife), OnRPG Journalist

For centuries fanboys have worked their way into revolutionizing their way of fanboyism. What was then just a bunch of cheerleaders (I don’t mean the sexy high school type) has now evolved into bloodthirsty zombies that are plaguing the land with their epic disease called fandom. Yes, there ARE fanboys everywhere, especially in the MMO world so don’t think you’re safe in the virtual plain. I’m sure you’ve encountered a lot of epic fanboys out there, constantly infecting you with Fandom disease without even knowing it. I’m not sure if you’re concerned about your wellbeing but I’ve come up with a list of symptoms along with their corresponding numbers in the Geek-o-meter to know if you do have the dreaded A(F4NB01) disease.

0-15 points: Healthy Life

At 0 to 15, you’re healthy and safe from A(F4NB01). You may have a lot of fanboy friends but you’re pretty much immune to the outbreak. At this rate you play a healthy dose of video games but you still go out with friends regularly. If you’re within these boundaries, you’re living a good life.

Healthy Life

Healthy Life (There’s still such a thing as Outdoors)

15-35 points: Early Symptoms

At 15-35 points you’re probably starting to hang out with fanboys more often than your friends. This is the tricky part as it serves as the line between being normal and being a fanboy. At this point, you’re already playing for more than 5 hours a day and skip breakfast or lunch regularly.

Symptoms in this phase: Longer playing hours, skipping meals

35-50 points: Denial Phase

If you have 35 to 50 points you’re bound to be one of them, kind of like a fanboy on the works. At this rate, you’ll be laughing at jokes regarding like “why did the level 15 poring cross the road?”. Denial would probably be the first symptom in this area as paranoia’s sure to engulf you with its fiery wrath. You’re probably looking around in your room at this moment, thinking about what particular poster would fit your walls. You’ve probably purchased your first collectible by now and is currently craving for more.

One of the dreaded symptoms in phase is called “N4M3Z0R5” where you end up naming your characters after existing personas in other games, constantly changing it into something that sounds the same if the name has been taken. One good example would be “Sepheroth”. We all know that it’s obviously a misspelled version of “Sephiroth” from Final Fantasy 7 that you are forced to choose since another fanboy took the real name first. Being called by the name gives you a burning sensation and greatly enhances your self esteem. At this point, I advise you to see a doctor and fast.

Symptoms in this phase: Denial, visuals, and paranoia, N4M3Z0R5

MMO Collections

Proud MMO Collections (the rare cases of purchased MMO boxes)

50-65 points: Transformation Stage

This is it, the start of your metamorphosis. At this point you’re probably trying to grasp your sanity by watching movies, afraid of the fact that real people don’t attract you anymore. You’re going downhill and there’s nothing you can do about it. Let’s look at the life of a certain man who prefers to remain hidden under his ingame alias “Leghollas” (Yeah… another fanboy beat him to it), a highschool student who is experiencing the next symptom of fanboyism called “1 3M 73H 1”. This occurs when a person starts to change his character’s looks to fit his character’s name. Since Legolas is an elven ranger, Leghollas copied every piece of detail he could muster from the character creation interface of Lineage 2. He is currently under provision for further analysis.

Leghollas is currently the guild leader of a PVP group known as the “Lord of the Rings” and is currently in charge of handling his guild’s applications while being watched by our specialists.

Symptoms in this phase: 1 3M 73H 1 syndrome, thinks that guilds need applications like work, possibly roleplaying as the real Legolas himself.

PC Room

Customized Game Room (Who’s paying the electrical bill?)

65-80 points: Signs of Violence

It’s all downhill from here boy. This is your last stop before you completely turn over to the dorkside. All of the previous symptoms have probably reached their maximum level by now. Your room will start to look like an arcade station rather than a place to rest, figurines and collectibles will flood your room constantly forcing you to take out other UNNECESSARY furniture like YOUR BED. Doing regular dungeons no longer interest you as you feel the lack of epic drama hence dumb moves like shouting “LEEROY JENKINS!” while mobbing the entire lair while your team hides their face under the palm of their hand. At this point the only advice I could give you is for you to have yourself confined in military school before you start hitting your door or killing your father while summoning a demon from the netherworld. Your room will be filled with holes like that kid on TV who smashed his own door after losing in PVP.

Symptoms in this phase: Violence, retard strategies, museum-like room

Figurine Cabinets

Hoarding Figurines (Your own private raid group)

80-100 points: Dial 911

Fanboy Loves Game Females

I’m sorry man… this is the part where you put your highsocks on and announce your new identity to the world. No longer are you the spawn that came out from your mother’s womb, you are—- SANGOUKU! (yeah they still beat you to it). By now you are probably cosplaying as your own character, doing poses while others watch other people take pictures of you to put in the daily geek newspaper. At this point you’re already loveless and has dumped your consort (filed divorce papers in some cases) to play more games for flesh no longer attracts you. You bow before ingame characters and even date other manchicks online for it is not their real bodies that matter but the hotness of the elf that stands before you. You’re dead to the world my boy, and now the world of adventure awaits. May god have mercy on your soul young one for you have lost the fight against A(F4NB01).

Final Product: your room is now filled with collectibles, you no longer sleep, you feel attracted to video game characters instead of real people, you wreck objects when other players have triggered your wrath either through PVP or by being human.

If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.

Perfect World International: Rising Tide Expansion Interview

Perfect World: Rising Tide Expansion Interview
Questions by Chen Fo Po (cinderboy), OnRPG Journalist
Answered by Jon Belliss, Product Manager for Perfect World International

 Perfect World Rising Tide

Perfect World China (????) has been around since 2005, while Perfect World International started its English service since 2008. Even though the game is technically young in the English market, it has gone through a number of content updates and expansions. With the gorgeous graphics, various styles of playing and active community interaction, Perfect World International has since captured a significantly large group of players from the Free To Play realm.

With the latest expansion, Rising Tide, the new Tideborn race, 2 new classes, various new maps and new features will be added to the already rich and massive content of the game. The expansion is due to be implemented on 16th December 2009, and here’s an interview to let players know what they can expect.

OnRPG: Hello, I am Fo Po (cinderboy), OnRPG’s newest journalist. Please give us a brief introduction of yourself and your role in Perfect World Entertainment.
Hi there, I’m Jon Belliss, and I’m the Product Manager for Perfect World International.   I’m essentially a project manager.  Anything related to PWI, I will have a hand in it, whether it’s marketing, media interviews, web development for the game’s website or game data management.  It’s a very exciting position, as well as challenging.

OnRPG: As a Chinese gamer myself, Rising Tide was implemented in the China only a few  weeks ago. I am really impressed, how did you guys wrap up translation in such a short amount of time?
We have a very large team, both in China and here in our North American office putting in a lot of hours towards the localization of this expansion. It’s been a lot of work, but we’re very proud to getting this content update to the North American players in such short order.  Huge kudos goes to those respective teams and the work they’ve done, and continue to do on a daily basis.

OnRPG: How did the idea of the underwater environment come about?
Actually, if you look at the map in PWI, there wasn’t much room for a new race other than in the ocean! But really, since all races can already swim and there is underwater combat, why not take it to the next level?  Additionally, the development team had conceptualized this race long ago, and had already integrated their storyline into the grander storyline that envelops what we know as Perfect World.

Tideborn Assassin

Tideborn Assassin

OnRPG: I must say the building designs, especially those in the new city, City of Raging Tides, are really unique and exquisite. Where did the inspirations for these designs come from?
On behalf of myself and the development team, thanks! Both the design for the new cities and the new race were meant to have an aquatic theme to them. For example, if you look at your starting gear for either Tideborn class, you can definitely see some “under the sea” influence.

OnRPG: Let’s talk about the new race, Tideborn. How different is this race compared to the others?
The Tideborn have a couple characteristics that really set them apart. One of those is their mermaid form. At level 9, Tideborn can unlock the skill to transform into a mermaid, which gives you increased swim speed. When you’re starting on islands surrounded by water, that’s definitely something you’re going to want. A player who wants to try out the new race will still be able to customize their toon’s look, just like all the other classes.

New Tide Mount

New Mounts For the New Race

OnRPG: The new classes are the Assassin and Psychic. How was the process like before confirming these two new classes?
We knew for a while before the two new classes were announced. It was fun watching the players debate the rumors beforehand, and we were so excited about them it almost slipped out a couple times.  In terms of the development process, it was extremely intensive initially.  We had to look at the existing class make up within Perfect World and the general archetypes that already exist, then look for gaps that we could fill.  Another thing that was taken into account was end user play style.  For example with the Psychic, we already have a magic healer (Cleric) and magic DPS (Wizard), but not a magic support class.

OnRPG: How do the two new classes work out in both solo and party play?
Both classes will be adept at solo and partying. The class everyone seems to be talking about is the assassin, and I’m sure you can see the benefits of being an assassin when you like to solo. They get in, pack a wallop and then get out. They’ll be a benefit for parties too, upping the DPS output (especially alongside an archer) and they have several attack related buffs that will be make them a huge asset to any party.

On the other hand, the Psychic seems built for party play, and will definitely be a welcome addition to groups with their buffs. For soloing, they are a sophisticated class that derives strength from predicting your opponent’s actions, rather depending on straight damage.

OnRPG: Public Quests will be one of the new features added in Rising Tide. Why the decision to add this feature?
The public questing not only adds another layer of community, but it also lets players directly see how they affect their game world. With Public Quests, anyone can contribute to a quest progress, whether they are in a group together or not. With this quest progress shared, you can actually work against other players and slow down the completion of the quest.

Mermaid Form

Tideborn Mermaid Form

OnRPG: How does the new “Recasting” Equipment System work out?
Recasting is a method of upgrading equipment from the Tideborn. Players can upgrade existing gear into new gear, but still retain the original attributes, refinement level and sockets. Esssentially, players can take their highest level gear, upgrade it to the Palace of Nirvana level  without losing all the work that was invested in the last set.

OnRPG: With Rising Tide, how will Perfect World International set itself as the leading Free To Play MMORPG in such a competitive market?
Well, this is our third expansion in a little over a year, not to mention all the major additions that we implemented outside of expansions. That in itself speaks to our commitment to our players and the quality of our game. And it will be quality that sets Perfect World apart and as a leader in F2P.

OnRPG: Now that Perfect World International has conquered the sky, land and sea, are there any hints as to what players can expect in the near future of the game?
Well, this close to the Rising Tide expansion, we can’t exactly say what’s in the pipeline, but if this is what we’re doing a year out from our launch, you have to know that what’s next is going to be huge!  You can be sure that once we have something that we’re ready to show to the public, you’ll be one of the first to hear about it.

OnRPG: I am sure both existing and new players will now have a deeper understanding of the expansion and the game. Thank you for your time!
Deep and sincere thanks go out to all of the players that have contributed to PWI’s huge level of success so far.  For those who aren’t familiar with the game, I strongly encourage you to try it out.  It’s free after all, the only thing you’ll be losing is a couple minutes of your time.  Thanks again OnRPG and congratulations on your new look, the site looks great!

Lord Online Battleground

Journey to the West

Journey to the West Online is based on one of the 4 Great Classic Novels of China literature of the same name. It tells the epic tale of Sun Wukong (Monkey King), Tripitaka, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing’s journey from ancient China to Tian Zu (ancient India) to collect holy scriptures from Buddha himself. Demons, monsters, evil individuals are just some of the hardship they have to endure, not forgetting epic sea battle involving the Dragon King.
Why is it hot:
This game is the pride of China, I must say. Throughout the years, many MMORPGs have taken the storyline of Journey to the West and twisted it into something else, with none actually sticking to the real storyline. Journey to the West Online is the first ever 2D MMORPG using the novel as the setting. Players will get to visit all places mentioned in the novel, with none added nor removed.
Game features:
  •  6 clans for players to choose from, in which all are found in the novel.
  • Original storyline according to the classic novel.
  • 72 transformation system, just like how Monkey King does it. Players can collect various boss and monster cards to transform into.
  • Karma system. Players will start off as mere humans, but as they complete quests or kill mobs, their karma level will raise, becoming a fairy, a demi-god, and so on. Each level will grant players new unique skills.
  • Players will be able to choose to join one of the 6 “worlds”, which is actually countries. Even though players can visit other countries, there will be various PvP instances for them to grab the various rare loots
